We continue to make progress with Station 3 in Mitchellville! The framing of the dayroom and bathrooms are done! Electrical work should be done soon and HVAC work should be beginning next week! We cannot wait for this project to be done!

It was a HOT morning yesterday, but that didnt stop our volunteers from conducting training. On Saturday, crews trained on pulling and advancing attack hose, 360 scene size-ups, getting geared up to enter a building on fire, and hose advancement and searching in low visibility conditions. All that were able to attend put in a lot of work towards the pursuit of excellence to better serve our community.

Tonight the Junior Recruits began with a short physical training session aimed to prepare each one for the physical demands on the job. Afterwards they were given an introduction into patient assessments and scene safety.

As a Junior Cadet, you’ll have the opportunity to:

Who can join?
📍 Youth ages 14-18 who live in or around the Portland, Tennessee area.
No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and a desire to make a difference!

We at the HVFD, if requested will respond to assist any fire department in need. This morning was an example. Engine 101 was requested to respond and assist White House Community Volunteer Fire Dept., City of White House Fire Dept., Greenbrier Fire Department TN, The City of Orlinda Fire Department, City of Millersville Fire Dept and Cross Plains Fire with the multiple semis on fire on Interstate 65 near the 104. Engine 101 was requested due to the drafting and water supply equipment we carry on it. Once on scene the fire attack strategy changed and no equipment was needed, however our crews assisted with digging through debris and extinguishing fire for over an hour. Great job and coordination by all agencies on scene.
