The front yard story. Under 3 years from dead + dying to mostly native + food producing habitat!
Jess looked at me real crazy when I first unveiled my plan to remove all of the grass in our front yard, up until a month ago when it really came together.
2 rounds of mulch, weeks of ivy removal, months of saving up cardboard, and years of planning, adjusting, weeding and planting.
So far we’ve planted: 3 rhodies, 2 salal, 5 flowering currants, 3 snowberry, 3 sword fern, a lady fern, a deer fern, 2 mock orange, 2 streambank lupine, 3 big leaf lupine, 2 goldenrod, hairgrass, blue elderberry, 2 vine maple, 2 daphnes, Douglas aster, California poppy, 3 creeping Oregon grape, magnolia, meadowfoam, checkermallow, blue rush, 9 dahlias, 4 peonies, 5 kinnicknick, monkeyflower, fig, evergreen huckleberry PLUS everything in the garden beds and berry patch.
WHEW. I can’t wait to see how glorious she is in a few months, and over the next few years. And that will be an added bonus!
