Brigid is back! For, Poems of our Climate ::
A poetics lab ::
6 weeks online beginning October 16th — totally asynchronous

Climate effects our physical and psychic experience of life on the planet with others. Our relationship to climate has been the seed of origin stories, the imagery of our emotional lives and the inspiration for human and animal creations. Think of Shakespeare’s The Tempest or King Lear, Keat’s Odes, or T.S. Eliot’s The Wasteland. Think of squirrels hiding nuts, bower birds, beached whales and disrupted migration rhythms. Climate is reshaping our homes, our cities and our dreams. It will shape our relationships to other life forms as the new behaviors of animals coming into human habitats or the discovery of dinosaur foot prints after drought are exposing.

In this poetry lab we will write from the climate of mind inside our changing climate. You may write about climate change directly or about its presence in your awareness, your dreams, your world, your relationships. You will have options to try particular formal experiments or at least take off from them. These experiments are keyed to ways poetic form allows us to use language at extremities—enjambment, verb tense, repetition, the image and rhythm of words across the page, grammatical voice, and call/response.

This lab is open to all.

There's been a lot of amazing moments in my life, and this one is right there at the top - singing American Tune with Paul Simon on guitar at Newport Folk Festival this year.

It's very important to say that Paul changed the lyrics, not me - and this song has become one that is so dear to my heart for its ability to say what I have been feeling for a long time.

So honored to be a part of this.

oh thank you beloved Booklist/Leah von Essen for the starred review, and for the kind and keen words :: “Kinky, q***r, and razor sharp… a stunning novel about the future we might be able to create if we listen to voices we’ve previously ignored…a strange, emotional story about the rush of freedom, about welcoming in the world around us from earthworms to fungi, and about being willing to start again.” – Booklist, STARRED REVIEW Riverhead Books
