From the Wee Bar, we made our way into the central area. I popped into Frasers to check out whether i could get a kilt. I found my family tartan!
Being rare, the kilt would be roughly 1000$. I decided to pass.
The rest of the shots are outtakes from the central city. We got some food at a pub and decided to call it a night as tomorrow is an early one.

From the Cairns we made our way into central Inverness. The castle is closed, but across the river is the cathedral.

While the architecture is good, the overall feeling was ..... Meh.

Same old stories told the same old way. It's like these people are obsessed with it. It's almost like if the dirt is told enough times, people believe it. 😉🤔🧐

The clincher here was a lack of pews. Why would a church not have pews? It's weird.

Today, we slept in on our rock hard bed and went into Drumndrochit for breakfast at a little cafe. Traffic was backed up really far along the main road.

After breakfast, we drove 40 minutes to battlefield Culloden, where we got a guided tour.

We prepared the museum afterwards (rehashing the same stuff we just learned) and made our way into Inverness.

We got into Inverness around 18:30. I bookmarked a bar on the map in my research and we ended up there. I washed Indian, but... Compromise.

It is situated NW of Inverness, and we drove through a deeply industrial area to get there. I filled up my tank for £40 from half en route.

We parked outside on the street, no fees, but no guarantee that it was legal either. Parking is so haphazard here; there is no signage as to where you cannot park.

I got a pint of Old Speckled Hen, a favorite of mine heretofore unseen in Scotland, for £4.

The menu had words on it. Many i didn't understand, such as Cullen Skink. They had two daily specials, both looked stellar.

I ordered the chowder, i mean skink, which was smoked haddock and potato with mustard seed. It was tremendous. I also had the chicken tikka with pappadams. K had the "veggie pie", known to most as quiche.

The meal was fu***ng delightful and extremely filling.

For whatever reason, my dish also came with fries. I probably could have just ordered the chowder and would have been fine.

We made our way to our room, a quaint cottage next to Loch Ness. It was a 20 minute drive, and we arrived around 20:30. I've been on IG most of the night with British TV cooking shows on on the background. So... 4.5 hours?

Tomorrow, we visit Culloden and Loch Ness.

I'M CAUGHT UP and so are you!

Perth, Scotland.

My ancestral home. In 1400-1450, my family owned this patch of land. 300 years later, many would move to America. Others would move south to the English border.

It felt very strange "coming back" to a place i never knew i had left.

Thursday?
Today we say goodbye to Melville and hello to Inverness.
En route, we will view a couple of castles and a stone circle.

After leaving Melville, we wen into Edinburgh.
We dropped by a grocery store because
I split my pants getting out of the car. My tactics for avoiding that problem are thwarted with this particular steering wheel layout. Brand new pants too. Grr.

At the grocery, we noticed that food is very inexpensive here.

A couple more miles and we were at to William Scott and Sons, a sporran maker.

It was a manufacturing facility, stuffed with product. It smelled of leather. And the man working was extraordinarily friendly and accommodating.

I wanted to buy, but didn't have enough cash. He doesn't do sales to the public usually. I tried to get cash out at the ATM, but was denied.

I left with information on how to order as well as a couple of better sporran chains. I also left having changed into my kilt.

This is why i don't wear pants anymore.

By the time we left, it was 2. We have to get going!!! There are castles!

I FOUND IT, and it wasn't closed!

This was a beautiful cemetery. Creepy and decrepit. The captain's headstone was my favourite. The headstones were in great shape for their age. It was very small and laid out like, well, a uterus.

On the way out of the castle (we left around 3:30 or 4), they were dismantling an arena. Turns out, they do this every year to preserve the skyline.
We made our way through the streets to Calton Hill. I only took one wrong turn, but it cost me 15 minutes of renavigation. Edinburgh is so hilly that it's kind of built in layers. You can tunnel under neighborhoods and is a bit of a maze.

I found a place to park across the street near a govt building. At about 10 to 5. The Beverley supposedly closed at 5.

I didn't have change for the meter. So i downloaded an app. Which washed a British phone number only.
So i got change. The meter was unreadable, but i did get a parking receipt.

I was looking for a cemetery, but we found the observatory and tower instead.

Mary most have been the best fu***ng Queen ever. From what i know, she really wasn't. But they certainly prattle on about her obsessively. Every single place I've been in has been visited by Mary. Probably the men's bathroom in the pub too. Weird.
