Central Maine Power’s standard offer rate will be increasing ¢2 cents at the start of the year. This will increase the average bill by $11-22 dollars a month. Mainers are already struggling with affordability and are left with very few options to offset costs.

Joining a Community Solar farm will allow you to receive 15% under the standard offer rate, helping you battle these increased costs.

Please don’t hesitate to message me if you have any questions or would like to take advantage of this opportunity.

The PUC says the change will add about $11 per month to the average household bill starting in January.

A recent Axios article highlights how electricity costs are rising nationwide, driven in part by growing demand from energy-hungry data centers. Here in Maine, we already rank in the top 5 for highest electric rates and from May 2024 to May 2025, residents saw a 30% increase in residential rates.

One reason is our aging and storm-damaged grid. CMP has announced it will raise rates further in the coming years to help cover repair costs adding even more pressure to monthly bills.

While these grid challenges won’t be fixed overnight, community solar offers a practical way for Mainers to save in the meantime.

By enrolling in a local solar farm, residents can receive credits on their CMP bill and save 15% on the energy portion of their electricity costs without installing panels or switching providers.

Residential costs rose 6.5% nationally between April '24 and '25.
