‼️ Help Ayatallah Baroud ( .ayatallah._ ) 18 year Palestinian from Gaza, reunite with her parents 🍉🙏🏼!

‏The goal of this fundraiser is to get Ayatallah’s parents (kamal baroud, zainab baroud) out of the gen0€ide in Gaza as they suffer from constant fear, hunger and lack of all resources. In addition, Ayatallah’s mother is sick and she needs health care for an urgent operation on her eye, which this she cannot access in Gaza.

Let me tell you a story 🙃…

Last year I began shifting out of a very coaching, mentoring & teaching heavy service suite … & into a much more collaborative & co-working focused service suite.

Why? Because I realized that no matter how much I taught, guided, or helped folks learn how to do something… many people still struggled to fully grasp concepts let alone implement them.

I saw this as an opportunity to re-evaluate HOW I was helping people. In one of the courses I took in the Sustainable Development program I was in with Michigan State last year, we were introduced to experiential learning & this deeply influenced my decision to rework my service frameworks.

Most indie biz owners wear far more hats than they actually need to (or should!) & though I believe it to be incredibly important for biz owners to know how to do the needle moving stuff for their businesses, I don’t however believe that biz owners should have to do all those things themselves.

The list of To do’s for indie biz owners is never ending. Your marketing department alone has so many facets to it that there’s no great way to run things REALLY WELL & effectively all by yourself- no matter how much you know HOW to do it. There just aren’t enough hours in the day or hands on our bodies to carry it all!

Instead of solely teaching / coaching / mentoring folks on the HOW, I switched gears to focus on creating an experiential environment where I delivered my services in a collaborative, hands on way. I began focusing on helping people not just learn how to do things like develop and launch their biz, design & strategize their brands, craft their service suites, & establish an awesome content direction & marketing strategies… but then ALSO be supported hands on with the actual design, development, running & managing of things.

Clients no longer had to do it all on their own. This brought me to start offering custom design & content creation support for clients, where I design & manage their content & marketing strategies. I also began offering full stack media management support, where I strategize, design & manage their online + social platforms.

You don’t have to do it all yourself 😘.

Do you need to raise your prices?
Yes… No… Maybe? 🧐

Here’s the thing: Raising your prices solely because you want to isn’t really a justifiable reason to raise them. WANT is not the same as NEED.

Creating a culture of raising prices whenever we feel like it, without taking into consideration whether we actually NEED to, is likely to create unnecessarily inflated and highly unethical pricing norms.

I recently had a convo with a client who invested in a 30k$ service package that left them feeling like they didn’t even receive what they signed up for. I don’t know about y’all, but 30k$ is a TON of money to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Especially to then experience post-purchase dissonance!
This is a common story I hear WAY to often, showing we have a problem with pricing.

I’m not saying that there isn’t a time or place for premium pricing. What I am saying is that it should be LOGICAL, justifiable, and backed with strong delivery of what you promise!

How do we ensure we are adopting an ethical pricing strategy?

For starters: Understand that ethical pricing happens when both the business owner AND the purchaser benefit from a financial exchange in an equitable way. When we lose equity in exchanges, we often enter into the waters of exploitation of people. Have you established your pricing from a lens of equity?

Some strategies to consider:

📌Cost based strategy: basing pricing on the cost of producing a good/service.

📌Freemium strategy: you offer a great free version of your product/service that builds natural interest in the full version.

📌Hourly/rate based strategy: you charge by the hour (reasonable rates that are sensible!)

📌Project-based strategy: you charge based on project & deliverables (again, sensibly!)

📌Value-based strategy: you set the price of a product/service based on consumer feedback & interest (your consumers HELP you establish pricing! This is my fave 🙃)

Questions to ask yourself:

✔️Is my pricing making essential products/services accessible?

✔️Is my pricing potentially harming vulnerable populations?

✔️Are my prices potentially manipulating or taking advantage of consumers?

How have you been taught to set your pricing as an indie biz owner?

… or maybe you haven’t been taught and ya just sorta wing in? 😬

Pricing establishment as well as pricing strategy are two things I could talk about all day long … because I honestly get really fired up about the ridiculously unethical pricing norms that currently are standard practice in most industries. 🤬🥵

Unethical pricing is pretty typical; so typical that we may not even realize they are taking place or that we are falling for them. Some pricing strategies are so shady that they’re actually illegal & you can get fined… where as others are just uber capitalistic and thus harmful for consumers.

Some of the biggest concerns I have with how pricing is being handled right now is that it seems like we are just choosing prices based solely on what ‘feels good’ or what other people in our industry are charging.

Basing pricing off feelings alone is NOT an ethical pricing strategy.

Basing your pricing off what other people are charging alone is also NOT an ethical pricing strategy.

Pricing should be determined by making actual calculations, conducting research, and investing deep consideration for what logically & realistically makes sense.

The way we price our services & products can uphold as well as perpetuate systems of oppression, discrimination, exclusion, ra€ism, and $upremacy.

Many of the ways online indie biz owners are approaching pricing and thus making money are upholding these very systems! And that’s just not ok. Small businesses make up the largest sum of businesses in existence.

When we change the way we approach pricing & sell, we can have a TREMENDOUS impact on the planet.

Share in the comments how you’ve been taught to price (or if you’ve been taught!)👇🏼👇🏼

Stay tuned for the second part of this post where I’ll share ways to establish ethical pricing strategies 🥰.

I mean, DUH 🤪, am I right?!

Using fear as a way to ‘motivate’ folks to do something is just not cool. Not to mention it’s wildly unethical!

Fear based marketing shows up any time someone purchases something because they are afraid of the consequences of NOT purchasing. This then creates an incredibly disempowered purchasing process!

I don’t know about y’all, but I don’t want anyone to ever work with or purchase from me based on a foundation of fear. Talk about starting a relationship from a really unhealthy foundation!

Tactics rooted in fear can show up in the most sneaky ways. You know those marketing messages that promote FOMO such as ‘Only X spots left, act fast!” … yeah, FOMO is a form of fear based marketing 😬. It makes people fear missing out if they don’t purchase RIGHT NOW!

Fear based tactics also pop up a lot when we trigger pain. We fear feeling pain, or reliving painful situations, so when folks use those very pains in marketing copy to explain that it you don’t buy their product/service then you’ll continue feeling that pain… they’re using fear based marketing to sell. This is why I don’t like to speak in ‘pain points’ and do not teach the concept of triggering or talking to pains but rather focusing on obstacles/challenges + solutions + transformations.

Sure, there are some decent ways we can create a sense of urgency that is also ethical… such as just being transparent about your availability, stock limit, or capacity. But, when we use urgency and fear as a way to PRESSURE folks into buying… that’s when we’ve got an issue of ethics.

Rule of thumb: long lasting relationships are built in transparency, honesty, respect, and mutual benefit… not fear.

Want to make sure you’re not consciously or unconsciously using fear in an unethical way to sell your products or services?
👉🏼Scan your copy & write with your eraser!
👉🏼Examine who you were taught by and whether they’re functioning from a code of ethics!
👉🏼Get feedback from your people on how your messaging makes them feel!
👉🏼Study & invest time in learning how to write ethical marketing messaging & create empowered purchasing processes!

Who else *LoVeS* content repurposing?! 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼

Yesterday I asked in my stories what y’all are using to market your business that ISNT social media. About 80% of people said EMAIL LIST! This makes me happy!

Regardless as to what additional marketing channels you’re using, the important question is: Are you utilizing a Macro - to - Micro content creation strategy when designing your content?!

If the answer is no, then chances are your content repurposing strategies may feel more challenging than they need to be (or they’re non-existent!).

If you’re creating content for multiple marketing channels… such as a blog, email list, podcast, or various social media platforms… there is absolutely NO need to have a completely separate strategy for EACH platform.

Yes, we want to consider how each platform works, functions, etc (because they all work differently and thus strategies do need to be somewhat different for each!). Yet, you do not need to create entirely different content for each channel you’re using!! This is making way more work for yourself than is needed!!

Instead, utilize my Macro - to - Micro content strategy framework. This framework helps you to create content for DEPTH instead of DISTANCE. In this framework, you create your largest, most robust content FIRST (you know, your blogs/podcasts/newsletters)… THEN, you create your micro content FROM the macro!

The chefs kiss 💋 is then applying platform strategy to how you design, showcase and publish this content for the various channels you share on.

We don’t structure and write blogs the same way we design and publish social content. We don’t craft and design newsletters the same way we design and share a Pinterest pin.

It’s not about creating all new content for each platform, it’s about knowing the platforms features and functions you’re sharing on and using them to your benefit as you share your content in a repurposed, macro- to - micro way!

This is the stuff I *love* to help folks with because quite frankly it bothers me when I see indie biz owners burning themselves out trying to create & share content in an unsustainable & ineffective way!!

What type of content creator feels most in sync with how you like to approach content? 🤔

I fall in the bucket of enjoying both styles, yet I typically gravitate toward front end more than back end when given the opportunity!

In regards to the work I do for my clients, I consider myself ‘full stack’…meaning, I can help with the front end aspects of business dev & growth, brand direction, marketing strategy, design, content creation.. and basically all the stuff people see! … as well as the back end aspects like strategic planning, systems ops, Workflow establishment, streamlined processes, automations, user experiences and the stuff people don’t typically see.

Being full stack like this is one of the things I love about the work I do. It keeps things interesting and always adventurous! I don’t like to do the same thing over & over again.😬

Being full stack is also one of the reasons why I started to consider transitioning my freelance services business into a creative studio model.👽

After toying with the idea for quite some time, I decided it was an exciting and no brainer next step and so I am now mid-process with the transition! Hopefully by mid summer we will be officially a studio and I’m STOKED about how this will open up new opportunities to support folks in a collaborative & multi-layered way.

Right now I am still open to receiving portfolios from any freelancers who are interested in potentially collaborating on projects in a non-hierarchal team setting. If you’d like to learn more about what I’m looking for, peep my stories or drop me a DM!

Regardless as to what type of business or brand you operate, chances are if you are creating content you’re probably one of or both of these main styles I laid out in this series. You don’t have to work with other businesses to fit one of these! As indie biz owners & founders, we wear A LOT of hats & do a lot of things. How we like to create content is important to define because it can help us stay in our lane, identify new skills we need to develop, or where we can outsource. 🙏🏼

What do you love to focus on when it comes to content creation?! Share in the comments 😘.

Have you ever thought about Why it is so popular to use money as a means for attracting people to a product/service?

Money controls just about everything we do (or are able to do).  It is required in order to be able to access basic humans needs.  We need to have money to pay for heat to stay warm, food to stay alive, shelter to stay safe.  Heck, water even comes with a price tag & in some regions of the world it is illegal to collect rain water even though it just freely falls from the sky!

When we see someone financially thriving, we attach a ton of imagery, ideas & beliefs to it.  We also consciously (or unconsciously) know that many of our basic survivals depends on our ability to pay to survive. We have things like ‘living wages’ that basically means that you’ll get paid a wage that'll keep you alive… but the catch with that messaging is that no one guarantees that the QUALITY of life will be great with the wages you earn. We have ‘costs of living’ that basically means that there is a COST to live & you better be able to pay up or you won't be able to survive.

When someone uses financial gain as a way to sell products and/or services…. it's like little flashing lights & sirens 🚨 go off in our bodies, signaling that whatever they are selling could potentially help us survive.  We often get so distracted by the dollar signs that we don't stop to question things like whether we actually need what their selling, or whether it's a smart investment to buy what they are selling, or even whether what they are selling is going to deliver what we TRULY need.

So then, what do we truly need?
This is different for everyone & important for us to define for ourselves.
Sure, it may be money. But is it also more ease in accessing something? A more equitable system that supports their well-being? A more inclusive environment? A society that provides access to basic human necessities?

Our businesses can be a vote for the world we want to live in & our messaging can help carry out that vote. The messaging we use in our businesses has the ability to either uphold toxic cultural norms …or disrupt them. 💘

Content planning doesn’t have to be complicated! 🥹

Before diving into my 4 part content planning process, make sure you understand the difference between content PLANNING and content CREATION. I’ll be sharing my content creation process later this week, so come back to check that out! In the meantime, today I’m sharing my planning process.

Content planning is the PRE-creation (aka design) phase. It’s super important and will speed up as well as increase efficacy of your design time!

I plan content a month in advance (minimum) BUT, that goes without saying that the plan ALWAYS changes! I’m a creative person by nature, with lots of ideas always steaming. I plan in advance knowing that the plan is not written in stone.

I also plan each week, and this is when I update my monthly plan as needed.

My planning process is as follows: 👇🏼👇🏼

1. Brainstorm & research: I have a page in my Notion for ‘content brainstorming’ and this is where I keep all my content ideas! I then research ideas I want to work with for the upcoming month as needed (SEO research, trends research, market research, etc)

2. Organize content ideas by TOPIC of content and TYPE of content: I take the ideas from my brainstorm and pick the ideas that I want to work with for the upcoming month, organizing ideas based on my content pillars AND channels I share content on (types of content). This completes my monthly editorial calendar!

3. Identify marketing objectives & direction: I then define the GOAL of the content I’m creating, identifying CTAS and activities I’m doing to drive said goals.

4. Review, schedule, publish! Last but not least, I review it, schedule it, and await publishing time!

Easy peasy!
Ok a good day, I can knock out my monthly content plan in one sitting! Doesn’t have to be super time consuming yall! But this gives your content efforts direction & intention… which will ultimately help increase the results your content generates for you!

Have questions about content planning? Drop them below ⬇️! I’d love to hear about the content planning process that you use 🌞. What works for you? What isn’t working with your current approach? Xx

“Invest in yourself, you’re WORTH IT!”

“Investing in yourself is a sign to the universe that you believe in yourself!”

“If you don’t invest in yourself, you just must not want your goals bad enough!”

“Not investing in yourself is a sign of money blocks and scarcity mindset!”

…. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the point 🫠🫠🫠.

There isn’t a week that goes by that I don’t see the above 👆🏼 types of marketing messages somewhere on the interwebs. Y’all: those types of messages are SO toxic! Let alone they’re also incredibly manipulative and ignorant. Can we all agree to just stop pushing this thought?! 😑

There are a million reasons why someone DOES invest in something…

And there are a million reasons why someone DOESNT invest in something.

We can’t just assume we know someone’s reasoning… and we can’t just link folks decision making processes to their levels of belief in themselves. 🙄

I have invested in things because I DIDNT believe in myself. I have invested in things because I DID believe in myself.

I have invested in things because I budgeted and planned for it… and I have not invested in things because I quite frankly didn’t have the financial ability to do so.

If you’re a statistics person, you’d know that the average person has little to no savings, retirement, etc. (EX: 60% of Americans consider anything that costs in the 2k$ realm a financial emergency that will bring financial stress! According to Fortunly)

Toss in wage gaps, our ever growing class gap, and our oppressive systems that hit BIPOC & forcibly marginalized communities the hardest, and yeah….

You can believe in yourself all you want but that doesn’t change the fact that we do not all have the same levels of access to money needed to make financial investments.

Comment and/or share this post if you agree 😬😬.

Which color combo do you enjoy the most? 🌞🌞

At the beginning of each month, I pull a card from The Wild Unknown’s Archetypes deck. Whatever archetype I pull is the overarching archetype that I work with for the month. It’s wild (no pun intended 😜) how aligned the pulls always seem to be & how the archetype that i work with always seems to be exactly what I needed to focus on.

This month I pulled The Stone archetype. This archetype is about working with your anchor or tether; the thing that grounds you, helping to keep you centered and present.

Ironically enough, just a few days into the month of May & I can already see why I pulled this archetype.

There is so much that feels in transition right now. Between my partner & I house hunting while also preparing for my mom to come stay with us for most of this month…to being in transition with my work as I prepare to move into a Studio biz model & shift some of the ways I offer support to folks.

There are also many social & environmental transitions happening… all of which can definitely disrupt our ability to feel grounded or centered.

The Stone archetype is perfect energy to work with right now. Identifying WHAT your anchors or tethers are is definitely the first step.

For me, one of my strongest anchors has always been art & creativity or any form. Using art as a therapeutic outlet and allowing creative expression to help me stay present/grounded has been a great support system.

This fun little color combos series came out of that space & I actually loved both the process of designing this series as well as loved how it turned out 🌷. Choosing humorous names definitely was the most fun part 😉.

What is your anchor or tether that helps you stay grounded amidst times of change & transition? 👇🏼👇🏼
