Pep Coworking Shop

Pep Coworking Shop A space for independents to work together, in the heart of the Kenton neighborhood. Know about tiny houses? Think, tiny coworking.

Pep is an open, shared office space in 300 square feet, with just enough room for seven comfortable desks and office essentials. But a small space doesn't mean limited value. Giant windows and high ceilings expand the room. Cleverly organized amenities maximize open areas. And with just seven desks, Pep's size means members know each other by name and understand each others' work. That's how we build our community, way beyond the walls of the office.

PANDEMIC LIFE - OWNER POST

My name is Cory. About a month ago I bought PEP COWORKING SHOP. I’m not sure buying a small buisness during a pandemic is financially advisable. However, I felt I needed to take control of my situation.

I’ll explain...

🏒 I’m a hockey coach. The pandemic meant no coaching hockey.

🍽 I lead a faith community that primarily gathers around meals in homes. The pandemic meant no full tables of friends sharing food.

✈️ I love being in airplanes. For some reason being a few thousand feet in the air gives me the space to get some of my best reflecting/thinking done. The pandemic meant no air time.

TBH - Pandemic life is draining. My mental/physical/emotional/spiritual health all declined over the last 12 months.

Working from home was tough but this past month has been sooo good for me.

✔️ Physically separating work from home.
✔️ Seeing people each day who are working toward their goals.
✔️ Starting a new creative project.

All of these have seen my health start to climb again.

The pandemic is not over. We still have so much work to do to keep each other safe. 😷

But...

⛅️ The sun is starting to shine.
💉 The vaccine is making its rounds.
🍻 The places we love are beginning to open again.

Friends we can do this. A new day is coming. It’s close. Keep your head up. Talk to a friend. Start something new. Make the changes you need to make. We are all in this together. 👊

THIS JUST IN: PEP LIVES ON!

Introducing , the new owner of Pep Coworking Shop!

Yall, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but after posting about closing the shop, I heard from a few interested folks about buying the business. It turns out that neighbor, friend, hockey coach, musician and community-builder Cory Doiron is the perfect fit! Effective March 1, he’ll be the holder of the keys, manager of the space, owner of the biz, and I feel so wonderful passing the shop off to someone so enthusiastic about growing it into something all its own.

I met Cory years ago when he was a member of Pep at its first location, and he’s said “ever since that time, I’ve felt like opening a space is something I’ve wanted to do.” The stars really aligned on this one.

Give Cory a warm welcome, and reach out in March if you’d like to check the space out. We’ve got desks available, all with ample space (6’ or more around each), and great vibes for getting work done. Let’s help him have a strong start so we can keep contributing to our neighborhood and building community.

Shifting our layout to move our meeting table to the middle of the shop, and our mid-size permanents up front. When I moved to this space last summer, I thought we’d want the front zone to feel more open to guests—clients, colleagues, etc. But as we’ve been here, that table has seen more internal use than external, so it makes more sense in the center of the room. Moving the mid-size desks up makes the center of the room less crowded, too, and I think improves our zones overall.
Which is just a long way of saying, we’re adapting and adjusting over here, during this down time.
How is everyone doing, working from home? How are you adapting?

Hey. Hey you. How’s it going? You hanging in there?
I’d say things at are about like this pic—bright and sunny, with a side of a random broken window. Vandalism? Coincidence? Who knows. I’m not sure it matters. We’re rolling with it, which is about all we can do right now. Today this window got replaced. We’re still here.
This weekend we’re rearranging some furniture and rethinking flow. We’re making things more comfortable for an uncertain future. We’re showing up here, now, in whatever way we can.
I hope you’re well. I hope you’re taking things slow and noticing little moments you’ve sped by in the past. I hope you’re listening and feeling. I hope you’re talking to neighbors and taking care of yourself. I hope you’re fixing broken windows and not getting too upset about them. I hope you’re thinking about the weight of it all and still finding levity.
I’m excited for the day when this shop is abuzz again. I’m enjoying the days with just a few of us here, for now. I miss people. I’m thankful for what I have. I hope to see you soon.

Y’all, we’re gonna in this work-from-home thing for a while. You can’t work on the couch forever. Get yourself a desk setup that’ll work for you for the long haul. Your back will thank you, your video colleagues will be so impressed, and your roomies will take your home-office needs seriously. Here are some tips from us at Pep about how to make your desk at home work for you.

We’re shifting to a strict member-only policy for the duration of the virus. We’ve got enough space for our people to spread out, and we’re cleaning ravenously. If you’d like to schedule a tour or ask any questions about Pep, please DM us here, or check out our website! It’s just been updated with pics of our new space and accurate details. Lots to see there.
Sending love to freelancers who are scaling back on work, parents watching kids at home, spouses/partners/roomies without work, the immuno-compromised, those living alone and those feeling stuck. We love you. We love you.
Our food/beverage neighbors are making shifts, too. Many are staying open on take-out / to-go basis. Follow .pdx to keep up.

Oregon has canceled gatherings of 250+ people for the next four weeks. At Pep, we’ve just had our first inquiry from someone whose employer is enforcing work-from-home during that time, but this person doesn’t have wifi at their house in order to work. If you’re in a similar situation, please get in touch, and let’s see what we can work out. We’re still here at Pep, taking lots of precautions while still working together. Were washing hands, cleaning surfaces and being smart. Stay healthy out there, y’all. Be kind, be patient, be prudent. The world is just one big coworking shop, and it’s times like these where we’re reminded that when one of us is hurting, all of us are affected. 💛
