Happy first day of fall to you all!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For me, this season is an invitation to welcome change and a shift in my perspective or approach. It is interesting to me that even amid a year full of change, the weather shifting has still inspired in me a desire to re-evaluate and adjust to create room from something new. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So many ideas are brewing. Stay tuned for what is coming in the next few months. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I am kind of obsessed with carrots. They are my favorite snack ever!!! When they are fresh, crunchy and earthy I can eat them everyday. I did once turn a little orange because I got REALLY into harvesting and eating carrots from the garden.⠀
🐰⠀
Orange skin aside.... carrots offer amazing health benefits. The nutrients in carrots are proven to help:⠀
🥕 prevent breast and colon cancer
🥕 regulate blood cholesterol ⠀
🥕support eye health ⠀
🥕lower blood pressure ⠀
🥕boost immunity ⠀
🥕aid in digestion ⠀
🥕prevent muscular degeneration ⠀
🥕reduce risk of stroke. ⠀
🐰⠀
They are great by themselves, dipped in hummus, or roasted and stewed. What is your favorite way to eat carrots?

One of my favorite ways to relax and care for myself is to cook elaborate meals in my kitchen, with a glass of wine and a good audiobook. There is something about the task of cooking, and listening to stories…with wine, that helps me let go and settle. It leaves me feeling relaxed and recharged. In my kitchen, my worries disappear for bit, and my to-do lists slip away. I feel safe, happy and quite.
🥘🍷📖
This type of stress management is extremely important for overall health. Unfortunately, unmanaged and chronic stress is a huge contributor to poor health. Currently, 75-90% of doctors visit in the US are for stress-related ailments and complaints. Ailments and complains such as:
•Headaches •heartburn •depression •anxiety •increased risk of heart disease
•fertility problems •erectile dysfunction •blood sugar dis-regulation •digestive dysfunction •mood instability •low energy •muscle aches and pains
•insomnia •weakened immunity
📝
For most of us, certain amounts of stress are unavoidable, so it is essential to find and establish practices and activities that support our bodies in handling stress. I give many of my clients the same piece of homework; to compile a list of activities that are just for them. Activities that bring them a sense of calm and relaxation. I ask them to keep this list somewhere private and work to incorporate one item on their list into their daily routine at least once of week.
🛁🏔🏊‍♀️🏋🏽‍♀️🍷🥘🌊
It has taken me a lot of self-exploration to find my list of activities that allow me to find a place of calm and relaxation. In addition to cooking in my kitchen, some of the other items on my list are; time spent outdoors with good friends, physical activity, long baths, and time spent next to large bodies of water like lakes or the ocean.
📝📝📝
What are some activities that allow you to settle and let go?

With the help of some really wonderful women I have discover that I am a routine person!⠀
📝⠀
After a big schedule shift in my life I was feeling a bit directionless in all the directions I was going. There are so many new and exciting projects happening in my life right now, and I was a little lost in all of them. Then I got a friendly reminder that I am a routine person.⠀
📖⠀
In the past, most of my daily routines have been set for me: by my school and my job. Without external circumstances setting my routine, I had forgotten how much I relied on one, especially a morning routine. ⠀
📝⠀
So I sat down a wrote out what I felt I needed in my life right now. My morning routine now looks like this:⠀
💧Water⠀
🧘🏻‍♀️ Meditation⠀
☕️ Coffee⠀
🤸🏼‍♀️ Movement ⠀
📝 List of goals for the day⠀
•⠀
It has been amazing! I find freedom and clear direction in my day when I have a routine and an aim. Especially when I have a routine for my morning. This isn’t for everyone, but if you have been feeling lost or directionless I strongly recommend sitting down and writing out 4-5 things you wish to include in your life daily. Try it out and see how it feels.
📖⠀
If you already have a routine, what does it include?

Get outside to repopulate your gut!
🌱🌲🌵
Last weekend I traveled down to Joshua Tree national park, I ran miles through the desert, inhaled a lot of dust and sand, and was covered in the desert by the time I was done. And guess what, the dirty part of the run was as, if not more, important to my overall health then the running itself.⠀
🌚🏜
Our gut health is essential to our overall health, and our gut health is a direct reflection of our environment (ie where we spend most of our time). If we spend the majority of our time inside and exposed to the same influences the diversity of our microbiome is limited. For optimal diversity and health in your microbiome, expose yourself to as many different environments as possible, touch the plants and the soil, and breath in the air.⠀
🏔🏜🏕🌿
“You have 70 trillion human cells, which is an impressive number, but you have 1.4 quadrillion bacteria, fungi et cetera and you have 14 quadrillion mitochondria living within you. You are, if anything, a vehicle for the microbiome to travel the world and communicate more broadly a purpose of life itself.”-Dr. Zach Bush @ Joshua Tree National Park

I am beyond excited and honored to announce that I have been selected as the BIRTHFIT SE Portland Regional Director!⠀
✨⠀
Growing up with a mother who (as a midwife and naturopathic physician) has dedicated her life to the service of women and their families, I have always felt a deep calling to follow in her footsteps. I wasn’t sure how that would represent for me until I found . I immediately resonated with their 4 pillars, values, approach to health and wellness, community, and above all else the way those in leadership roles treated and interacted with each other and the families they serve.⠀
✨⠀
The 4 pillars (fitness, nutrition, mindset and connection) encompass my own passions and beliefs. I am so ready to learn everything I can from these amazing women and share what I learn with you!⠀
✨⠀
Stay tuned for all the new and exciting things (such as workshops and classes) coming to SE Portland and to soon! ⠀

Do you ever train barefoot? If not I highly recommend working towards including it in your daily movement and fitness.
👣
Kicking off your shoes is a great way to improve and support balance, stability, joint health, posture, mobility, kinesthetic awareness, strength, alignment, coordination, overall performance, proprioception, brain function, injury prevention.....basically all the things.
👣
Our feet are covered in proprioceptors, which are constantly providing feedback about where our bodies are in space, our position and our alignment. When we put on socks, and shoes we greatly diminish the ability of these receptors to do their job.
👣
Ok 🙄 so writing this I realize, I actually have a lot to say, and it definitely will not fit here. Blog post coming soon ;)
👣
If you are interested in barefoot training DM me for more information and tips on how to slowly incorporate barefoot training into your life.
