Starting July 1, 2026, several important updates to Virginia’s notary laws take effect that every notary should know.
🖋️ Key Changes Include:
✅ Proof of your notary commission is now required when purchasing a notary seal or stamp.
✅ ALL notaries (paper and electronic) must maintain a journal of every notarization for at least 5 years.
✅ New standards strengthen identity verification and consumer protection in real estate transactions.
📅 Coming July 1, 2027:
• Mandatory education and a written exam for new and renewing notaries.
• Electronic land record filing modernization.
• Enhanced property fraud notification systems.
