40% of Oilfield Deaths Aren't on the Rig. They're on the Road.

Not blowouts. Not H2S. Not getting caught in the chains.

The truck.

OSHA data puts motor vehicle accidents as the number one killer in oil and gas. 4 out of 10 oilfield fatalities happen behind the wheel. Not on the rig floor. Not at the frac site. On the way there and back.

Water haulers. Sand trucks. Hotshots. Crew trucks. Wireline. Coil. Cementers. All of us.

Two hours to location. Drive home at 3 AM after a 16-hour shift. Dark county road, nobody around, fighting to stay in your lane while your body is already done.

No investigation. No press release. Just another cross on the side of Highway 285.

Companies will terminate you for not wearing your hard hat on location.

But they'll run you back-to-back shifts and hand you the keys home.

That's the safety violation nobody puts in the incident report.

Look out for yourselves out there. Look out for the guy riding with you.

The rig won't kill most of us. The road will.

I’ve found myself busier than normal this year just by word of mouth. Thank you!

*Maintaining compliance in contractor management platforms such as ISN and Veriforce.
*Safety Training
*CPR First Aid Training
*HSE Program Development
*Policy Writing
*Temporary Employment

I typically work with clients to achieve safety compliance within their organization and audit subcontractors. I was asked recently if I’d answer the phone for a week while someone was on vacation… I thought about that. Why not! It’s work for me and cheaper for you to pay a consultant.

Buyer Beware!

I frequently get asked if online OSHA training is sufficient in meeting company training requirements. The answer is NO!
While online training can be beneficial in helping employees become aware of hazards in the workplace, it absolutely does not meet all the requirements of OSHA training standards. Just to list a few topics in which online training falls short, see below. Just be aware that that if you choose the online option for your business, you will still need to provide additional hands on training and testing on-site for your employees. Cheap is not always best, and sometimes cheap costs more in the long run. I love Ma and Pa companies, but most do not have the financial ability to pay for a full time safety consultant. Did you know that for the majority of the commonly required OSHA training topics, you do not any special certification to teach? You just need a competent person. Have someone that has been the forklift driver for 10 years? Perfect! Got someone with a background in nursing - let them teach BBP. Utilize your workforce to meet your training requirements. Work smarter, not harder. 😉

Most places of employment with more than 10 employees are required to have training.

Had an interesting time at today’s safety meeting having employees determine the best hydration options for working in the heat based on sugar, calories, and caffeine. 🤔 The final lineup from best to worst. Surprising Huh?

(Not condoning drinking alcohol. Caffeine and alcohol make your body lose more water).

If you are outside working today or your kid is playing ball...

In all my years of safety, the absolute worst thing I have seen was an employee suffering from a heat stroke. I thought he would die before we got to the hospital.

Heat Safety is a must. Water is not optional. Sports drinks are a joke and do not help!

This video pretty much sums up the marketing scam of sports drinks.

Kurt Beecher Dammeier’s talk compares the early media campaigns of ci******es to that of today’s advertising of sports drinks like Gatorade, and warns that t...

Never assume that non-farm families, especially children, visiting the farm know all the potential dangers or hazards. As a busy, active workplace, it is important to establish rules to ensure everyone's safety while on the farm. Today's Grain Bin Safety Week Tip is sponsored by CHS Inc.
