In 1946, Harrison Bender purchased South Suburban Welding and Auto Repair. Over the years it slowly transformed into South Suburban Welding and Fabricating. Since the age of 9, George has been working around the shop and has done it all. From a kids bike to a 20,000 pound weldment there was no job too big or small. Most recently, George has been heavily involved in the fire service. He made training facilities, roof simulators, cars, training props, and The Humbler. 13 years ago we would have never known how successful the Humbler would become. It is in many states, in over 75 fire departments, and several college fire training programs across the country.
But now it is time to start a new chapter. After many years of hard work and dedication it is time for retirement. George plans on spending his time with his wife Janet, their kids and 8 grand children.
We want to thank everyone who made South Suburban Welding what it is. Thank you for your support for the past 75+ years. We will cherish all the memories and the people we have met along the way. Stay low. Be safe.
