Some of the best places in North Idaho take a little extra effort to get to… and Maiden Rock is definitely one of them. 🏔️🚤

Tucked along the west shore of Lake Pend Oreille, about six miles south of Garfield Bay, Maiden Rock is only accessible by boat—which is part of what makes it so special.

Pack a picnic, jump in the lake, explore Maiden Creek Trail #231, or just find a spot along the shoreline and enjoy the view. With minimal amenities and plenty of beautiful scenery, this is North Idaho at its best: simple, peaceful, and outdoors. 🌲

Places like this are a big reason I love calling North Idaho home. There’s always another trail to explore, cove to find, or summer day to spend on the water.

One of the best parts about living in North Idaho?
People actually show up for each other here.
Local events, small businesses, school sports, community fundraisers, farmers markets… there’s just a different kind of connection here that’s hard to explain until you experience it.
People moving from bigger cities are always surprised by how friendly and welcoming North Idaho feels.
Honestly, that hometown feeling is one of my favorite parts about living here.

One of my favorite things about North Idaho is that there’s usually a story behind the places we pass every day. 🌲

Take Hayden.

Before the neighborhoods, parks, and businesses we know today, much of this area was farms and orchards. Local growers produced apples, pears, cherries, plums, wheat, oats, hay, and more—and livestock was a big part of life here too.

You can still see pieces of that past in places like the red Stoddard Barn, the white Sims barns, and other old farm buildings tucked into the community.

Hayden has come a LONG way since incorporating in 1955 with just 440 acres and barely 700 residents.

I think knowing that history makes exploring our local communities even more interesting. You’re not just looking at where North Idaho is today—you’re seeing little pieces of how it got here.
