The Mullan Post Office was established in 1886ā€”two years before Mullan was officially platted as a town!

At the time, gold, lead, and silver discoveries were bringing workers and families into the Silver Valley. For a remote mining community, the post office was an important connection to news, businesses, family, and life beyond North Idaho.

More than a century later, itā€™s still part of everyday life in Mullan.

Thatā€™s one of my favorite things about exploring our small North Idaho towns. So much of the history that built these communities is still right here today. ā¤ļø

Tucked along the west shore of Lake Pend Oreille, about six miles south of Garfield Bay, Maiden Rock is only accessible by boatā€”which is part of what makes it so special.

Pack a picnic, jump in the lake, explore Maiden Creek Trail #231, or just find a spot along the shoreline and enjoy the view. With minimal amenities and plenty of beautiful scenery, this is North Idaho at its best: simple, peaceful, and outdoors. šŸŒ²
