Today we had an event for 70 high school kids from 10 different school districts. We spent the whole day talking about communication and teamwork. The students were in 4 different locations, completed 5 different challenges, had 2 planning session, and (most importantly) lunch.

About halfway through the day, I realized that I really wasn't doing much and things were still humming along. That is when you know you have a great team. When everything just happens "magically."

As I look through pictures from the day, every time I see one of the team, they are smiling and actively engaged with students. Making the event more valuable for the students and making my life easier.

You can't ask for more than that. So, a big thanks to the team.

Today we finally completed the much delayed second half of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Section 10 Athletics Leadership Summit. Back in March, the weather was not kind and we had to reschedule. But we finally got it done today. We had about 70 high school student-leaders from 10 local school districts. As always, it was great to see how they came together and rose to all the challenges that we threw at them. Best of luck to all as the school year and Spring sports seasons wind down.

I spent the day with leaders from North Country Savings Bank. We used the CliftonStrengths® (StrengthsFinder®) to work on self-awareness and get a better understanding of how each of us is different. As leaders, we need to understand our strengths and how we can use them to succeed. We also need to understand that other folks don't think the same way we do (and that's a good thing). Understanding and leveraging the strengths of every team member is critical for success.

This week I was in Cattaraugus County DSS talking to some supervisors about and . Not all job performance problems are the same, so we need different tools for different circumstances. If our team member is lacking skill or knowledge, then we should try coaching. If they are struggling with more personal issues (lack of confidence, stress, burn out, etc.), then counseling may be a better option. Thanks for the invitation and hope to work with you again soon.

Yesterday, I spent the day with leaders from Schuyler County talking about Generational Differences and how they affect our ability to work together. It's always tempting to blame "the new kids" for all our problems, humans have been doing that for millennia. But the reality is that each generation is influenced by different circumstances, have their own struggles, and bring new capabilities to the work place. We are going to excel as teams, we need to understand these differences and adapt to make room for "the new kids" and leverage their skills. Thanks to Marlene Reynolds for the invitation and the opportunity to get a picture of Montour Falls.
