🦌🍂 DEER SEASON IS HERE, AND THE WOODS ARE CALLING!

This weekend is shaping up to be a GREAT one in the deer woods! With cooler temperatures rolling in, we’re looking forward to spending some quality time at deer camp ourselves!

A quick update for our TDT Mounts customers:

We’ll be enjoying some time in the woods this weekend, but we’ll be back available Sunday and Monday to take care of all your taxidermy needs!

Thanks Steve!

He purchased our moose reproduction skull in August. It was the first time using our product. He said it’s a great product and having removable antlers is one of the best selling points. It’s definitely a high quality skull.

❗️FYI❗️DID YOU KNOW??? Teeth are prone to crack on 🐻 BEAR 🐻 skulls if they are not processed correctly! We have been doing skulls for 10 years now, and we have been through the trial and error. We know how to properly protect your teeth from cracking. You may save $25 bucks taking it to the backyard boiler but you may regret it a year later when the teeth are cracked and that grease comes back!

🐻 HARVESTED A BEAR & WANT A RUG? HERE’S WHAT TO DO NEXT!

A quality bear rug starts before it ever reaches the taxidermist. Proper field care can make the difference between a beautiful finished rug and hair slippage or a damaged hide.

If you harvest a bear and plan on having it made into a rug:

🔪 1. Be careful with your cuts. A rug requires specific cuts to keep the hide intact and symmetrical. If you plan on taking it to a processor be sure to tell them it is going to be a rug and not to just cape it out.

🐾 2. Leave the paws and head attached to the hide. Cut off at the wrists and behind the skull. Unless you’re experienced with skinning bears for taxidermy, don’t try to skin out the feet, toes, or head yourself. These areas are easy to damage.

🧊 3. GET IT COOL — FAST!
This is one of the most important steps. A bear’s thick hide and fat hold heat extremely well. Don’t leave it rolled up, piled in a cooler, or sitting in the sun. Get the hide cooled down as quickly as possible.

🚫 4. Don’t put a warm hide in a black plastic bag. Plastic traps heat and moisture, creating the perfect conditions for bacteria and hair slippage. Let the hide cool thoroughly first.

❄️ 5. Freeze it if you can’t get it to us quickly. Once the hide is properly cooled, fold it skin-to-skin, place it in a heavy-duty bag, remove as much air as possible, and freeze it solid.

📞 WHEN IN DOUBT — CALL YOUR TAXIDERMIST.
We’d much rather answer a quick phone call from the field than see a once-in-a-lifetime bear damaged because of improper handling.
