FH #22-56: Construction Progress photos from the site today, on this house plan "Veranda View" from -The Minis- series of Aging in Place LongevityPLANS with FutureFLEX Specifications.

Veranda View –
A thoughtfully designed sloped lot solution, this two-level layout for “now and later” is packaged into an affordable sized home that blends modern comforts with refined planning for long-term livability. The main level welcomes you with a vaulted ceiling and an open living, dining, and kitchen layout, creating a light-filled space that feels both expansive and easy to understand visually & navigate physically. A wraparound deck creates a veranda-like experience, extending the living space outdoors and offering multiple places to sit, relax, and enjoy the surrounding environment throughout the day. With direct ramp access from the driveway, entry is seamless and adaptable for years to come.

The primary bedroom and full bath are located on the main level, allowing for true single-level living when desired. The layout is intentionally scaled to feel both manageable and comfortable, supporting independence without sacrificing warmth or function. The daylight basement provides a fully flexible lower level for a fitness area, hobby space, or simply that downsizing additional storage. With natural light and separation from the main floor, it offers a quiet extension of the home suited for wellness, work, or retreat during your active multi-faceted chapters of life. Designed for those seeking a right-sized home with elevated comfort, this plan supports a lifestyle that evolves over time.

Her Next Nest: Design That Ages Well
Women, you are living in the middle of a quiet revolution.

No one put it on the evening news. There was no ribbon cutting or parade. But the numbers have shifted right under our feet...

A woman turning 50 in the United States today is very likely to see her late 80s and has a real shot at her 90s. Every year the census counts more people over 100. We used to treat the occasional centenarian like a local celebrity. Now it is becoming one more line item in a demographic report.

Yet our homes and our housing industry are still stuck in an older world.
They were built for a life that ran roughly like this:
- Grow up
- Go to school
- Work a job
- Retire
- Fade out
Maybe 65 to 72 years total. Three neat stages.

A home designed to raise kids and carry you just far enough into retirement. But no one talked much about what came after? This is outdated thinking.

Look at your own real life arc:
- Schooling takes longer or restarts midlife
- Careers shift and stretch
- Grandchildren arrive w/ your own parents alive and in their 80s or 90s

You are not living a three stage life anymore. You are living a full four, or five stage life. All different. All fulfilling. All challenging, in their own ways.

But your house probably never got the memo. Your spec home builder sure didn’t. Now you can have a plan. One that FITS your own personalized “what’s next” and “what now?”.

Maybe you need a Multi-Generational solution for caregiving? Planning for boomerang kids due to housing affordability? Co-Housing with your besties vs. dating again as the “nurse with a purse” target of older men? This isn’t the June Cleaver home any longer.

We know that. We design homes for all your new realities. And you can FORCE CHANGE. You as the 50+yo female are the decision maker, and the keeper of the future of financial prowess. Act like it. Ask for it. DEMAND IT from your future housing solutions.

“The Sandwich I DID NOT ORDER” - (how to pre-order, below)

Life has a curious way of placing us in roles we never anticipated. For many of us in the Sandwich Generation, it feels like we are caught in a high-stakes balancing act, navigating the needs of our aging parents while also guiding our own children into adulthood. It’s a unique space, one filled with both challenges and moments of profound connection.

Statistics paint a stark picture of this reality. According to recent studies, nearly 50% of adults in their 40s and 50s are caring for an aging parent while also raising children. That’s a significant number! Many of us are feeling the weight of these responsibilities—not just physically but emotionally too. We’re pulled in every direction, managing the demands of our jobs while trying to be present for our families. Oftentimes, we forget to check in on our own well-being amidst the flurry of caregiving.

And then there’s the emotional rollercoaster. On one hand, we’re watching our children blossom into independent young adults, filling us with pride and joy. On the other hand, we’re witnessing our parents’ decline, which can bring about feelings of melancholy. It’s a dichotomy that can leave you feeling exhilarated one moment and utterly depleted the next. I’ve felt that joy when my daughter received her acceptance letter to college and the simultaneous worry when my father’s health took a turn for the worse.

Guilt often creeps in too. As caregivers, we can struggle with the desire to provide the best care for our loved ones without sacrificing our own aspirations or personal well-being. There’s a constant push-and-pull, a nagging feeling that perhaps we aren’t doing enough. It’s important to recognize that this guilt is a shared experience among many of us in this generational crossfire.

FH #25-36: Another "Permit Approved" on first submittal, with ZERO comments back from the jurisdiction! This was a fun "Aging in Place" Home Remodel / Addition for a client in rural Poulsbo, Wa.

Great clients, fun to work with, and PLANNING for retirement success in their own home. PLANNING = WINNING. Can they do the stairs now? Yes. Did they allow us to design the remodel to include an elevator for later? Also, YES.

They will probably save 10x the investment they made with us proactively, by avoiding a fall and Long Term Care in a facility. It will save the adult children from crisis caretaking that ruins their careers & family plans. AND they get to stay HOME, with their garden, their pets, and in their community.

THIS is RETIREMENT PLANNING at it's best. How can we help you do the same? https://www.foreverhome-us.com/homeowners
