The Tube Amp Guy does tube testing! If you have a bunch of tubes hanging around and no longer have any idea of the condition, you should know that I can test them for you! I have a calibrated 1963 Hickok 752 and I can test your tubes for transconductance, plate current (power tubes), shorts opens, gas, etc. I also have an EICO 667 tube tester. I charge my regular shop rate of $60/hr for tube testing and I can test 20-30 tubes per hour. I will also provide you with test data for each tube. NOTE: the only true test of a tube is how it performs in your circuit!😉

Mass production of tube amps has come a long way! But the prices haven't changed much! What am I talking about? Above you see the internal chassis of a 1972 Fender Bandmaster head I recently recapped, blackfaced the bias supply, etc. Below is a relatively new Friedman Small Box head. A stark contrast indeed! The Friedman runs about $2500. Back in 1972, the price of the Bandmaster non-reverb head was $270, which is about $1800 in today's dollars! I love the old stuff, but if I can only choose between the two heads, I think I'll take the Friedman! LOL😉

IF YOU LIKE YOUR FENDER AMP EVEN OLDER...I just serviced these two beauties for my client Tony M. Both 1965 Blackfaces, the Princeton is so quiet you can't even tell it is on. Perfect recording amp. I added a bias balance mod, and recapped the Princeton. The Pro is almost too loud! LOL. Definitely not a bedroom amp.

UPDATE: This amp has been SOLD. Thanks for your interest! Hello FB friends of the TAG. I wanted to share a really amazing find, an amp I just acquired, and which is FOR SALE. It is a 1̵9̵7̵5̵ make that 1976 Fender Vibrolux Reverb in immaculate condition. It works perfectly. It literally looks like it was sent through a wormhole from 1̵9̵7̵5̵ 1976. I removed the chassis from this amp to have a look at the chassis and internal components and I am quite sure that I am the only person to ever remove the chassis from the cabinet. Absolutely has never been touched. Completely original and even has the original tubes in it and the original vinyl cover. Original Alnico speakers, and the RCA black plate power tubes have date codes of 48th week of 1975. Still has the safety tag on the AC power cord! A true closet queen. Crazy! I have serviced the amp and now I am looking to sell it. I wanted to make sure local people had first crack at it if they were interested. I would recommend that it be recapped and maybe even blackfaced, but for now it is entirely original except for the reverb driver tube. The original tube was getting hot and the reverb would stop working. See the photos for a look back 46 years.

As most of you know I'm a hack guitarist and keyboard player. And a reasonably good drummer. But I can't hang with this guy. He's my nephew, Nick Cerniglia. Many years ago I taught him everything I knew about guitar in 20 minutes. LOL Well, now he's a professional musician and animator and really, really great with a looper. He was doing the looping thing way before Ed Sheeran. This is one of my favorite songs of his, because I like heavy music. Check it out! And please check out his other work. Customer brought this little gem in for repair. Needed a new power tube and a cap job and some general maintenance. Great sounding little all tube, 6 watt, cathode biased, single ended amp with an 8” speaker and was intended as a beginner or practice amp. It was the entry model into the Fender line. Was list price $99 back in 1970! Now selling for $1000-1500. This one is so quiet now, would be a great recording amp and really has a nice little growl when driven with a humbucker.
