🥔 Throwback Thursday! 📖

What did promoting Maine potatoes look like nearly 90 years ago? This December 1938 issue of the Growers Monthly Bulletin gives us a look back at the 1938–1939 State of Maine Potato campaign—a statewide effort focused on advertising, merchandising, and bringing more attention to Maine potatoes.

The campaign included everything from newspaper, magazine, and radio advertising to store displays, branded packaging, recipe books, and even a 40-page book outlining the campaign for produce distributors. The bulletin also highlighted the success of the second annual National Potato Week, held December 2–10, 1938, which generated widespread publicity for potatoes across the country. 🥔📣

It’s pretty incredible to see how much thought and creativity went into promoting Maine potatoes nearly a century ago—and how many of those same goals continue to be part of telling the story of Maine potatoes today!
