Inside that solid gray block of nylon powder is an entire production run.

Selective Laser Sintering fuses PA12 powder layer by layer at 350°F. Because the loose powder acts as natural support, there are zero support structures to cut away.

Once cooled, we excavate the batch, reclaim the powder, and send parts to finishing.

One of these printers has googly eyes, and the one next to it goes by "Mega Man," written in marker on the door. You get fond of the machines you work beside every day. Keeping them all busy is the hard part.

A survey out this month found that close to half of smaller US manufacturers (under $50 million in sales) are running under 70% of their capacity, even though most manufacturers say they have more orders waiting than last year. The company behind it thinks buyers just keep calling the shops they've always used.

Alaska Guide Creations is a Price business too, and we print their bow hangers. That's the clip that carries a bow on a pack. The logo and the Made in USA line come right off the printer with it, 128 to a plate.

A mold for a part like this would cost somewhere between $15,000 and $80,000 and take 8 to 16 weeks before the first one came out. Skipping that means they can change the design whenever they want and order what they'll actually sell.
