Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department Summer Carnival — August 4–8 from 6:00–11:00 PM each night at the Calvert County Fairgrounds.

Enjoy rides, carnival games, delicious concessions, and activities for kids and adults alike. Join us for an amazing fundraiser supporting the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department.

We are excited to participate in another year of National Night Out! This is a great opportunity to meet Calvert County's Public Safety personnel and learn about community safety. Staff will be at multiple locations without the County and we look forward to seeing you!

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Lifetime Member, Willard "Smokey" Ward.
Smokey dedicated many years of service to the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Company 1, leaving a lasting impact on his department, his community, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Please join us in keeping the Ward family, their friends, and the brothers and sisters of the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Company 1, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Rest easy, Smokey. Thank you for your lifetime of service and dedication. You will never be forgotten.

Willard C. “Smoky” Ward Jr.

It is with profound sadness that the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department announces the death of Past Deputy Chief Willard C. “Smoky” Ward Jr., brother of Past Chief and Life Member Wayne Ward Sr. Smoky was an active, contributing member of the NBVFD for many years, was a veteran, and a retired Metropolitan Police Department homicide detective, where he served with distinction.

Smoky is remembered for his dedication to fire department fundraising efforts and the joy he experienced crabbing and fishing with family and friends.

A celebration of life is planned for Friday, July 31, 2026 at Hardesty Hall, adjacent to the firehouse. Times to follow. Please keep the Ward family in your thoughts at this difficult time.

We stand with the members of Calvert Advanced Life Support (CALS) as they mourn the loss of one of their own. During this difficult time, we ask our community to keep the Wells family, their friends, and the dedicated brothers and sisters of CALS in your thoughts and prayers. May they find comfort in the love and support of those around them as they honor a life devoted to serving others.
