🚨 Advocacy Alert: Standing Up for Maryland's Working Families 🚨

Say It Loud Advocates Research Network is deeply concerned about the proposed increase in transportation fees, as highlighted in this recent article by the Baltimore Sun. These potential toll hikes come at a time when working families are already grappling with the burdens of inflation, stagnant wages, and rising living costs.

Higher transportation fees disproportionately impact low-income and working-class families who rely on these routes for daily commutes. This could mean tougher choices between basic necessities and the cost of getting to work or school.

We call on Maryland lawmakers to explore equitable solutions to transportation funding that don’t place an even greater burden on those who are already struggling to make ends meet. Maryland’s working families deserve fairness, not financial barriers.

📢 Join Us: Let your voice be heard! Contact your local representatives and demand they consider the real-life implications of these proposals on our communities.

Together, we will advocate for policies that work for everyone, not just the privileged few.

n January, 1969, the Free Breakfast for School Children Program was initiated at St. Augustine's Church in Oakland by the Black Panther Party. The Panthers would cook and serve food to the poor inner city youth of the area. Initially run out of a St. Augustine's Church in Oakland, the Program became so popular that by the end of the year, the Panthers set up kitchens in cities across the nation, feeding over 10,000 children every day before they went to school

Environmental justice is at the heart of what we do at Chiquita Jackson Enterprise, and our recent efforts have brought a critical issue to the forefront: noise pollution. On July 13th, our Say It Loud Advocates Research Network hosted its second "Listen Lead Share" session, focusing on the pervasive and often-overlooked issue of noise pollution in Prince George’s County, MD.

In partnership with the Maryland Environmental Justice Collaborative, this session aimed to elevate the conversation around noise pollution, revealing its often-hidden impact on physical and mental health, particularly within marginalized communities. During our discussions, it became evident that many residents have normalized the constant, disruptive noises that permeate their daily lives—so much so that they often don't recognize the extent of the harm being done.

Participants shared that issues like air and noise pollution were not at the forefront of their minds, highlighting a broader misunderstanding of how deeply environmental justice intersects with other community challenges. This session was a powerful reminder that the fight for environmental justice is not just about clean air and water; it’s also about creating environments where all residents can live, work, and thrive without being subjected to harmful and incessant noise.

The stories shared by the community were both heartbreaking and galvanizing. Many expressed sentiments like “it’s always been that way,” showcasing the dangerous acceptance of adverse conditions. These narratives underscore the urgent need for continued education and advocacy to challenge and change these normalized injustices.

We encourage you to watch the session's recording to hear more about our findings and the powerful conversations that took place. Your awareness and support are vital as we continue this critical work.
