GUN CONTROL BACKGROUND CHECKS 101
This is a very frustrating issue for me , I have friends on both sides. Please have an open mind on both sides and consider an opinion from someone that has Carried a concealed weapon for the last 40 years and has done thousands of background checks on people from all over the world.
Some FACTS
1) Every state has different rules and regulations to obtain a weapon.
2) Assualt weapons is a TV term. A weapon is either semi automatic or fully automatic.
3) Nobody in this country can obtain a fully automatic weapon LEGALLY except for a very few arms dealers with a special license.
4) Some of the cities with the highest gun incidents have the strictest regulations.
5) Background checks dont search medical records either mental or physical.
6) Some people live in rural areas in this country and rely on weapons to protect themselves due to the response time from police.
7) 2nd amendment is clear about the right to bear arms.
8) This country was born on a revolution, Guns, alcohol, prostitution, gambling....
9) it's a fact in every city you can buy an illegal weapon very easily.
10) Social media is not a search criteria in a background searches for a weapon, it is for employment and college.
11) If you really crunch the numbers mass shootings verse crimes with a gun involved are completely different. Mass shootings are not sensible tragedy, but are uncommon but far more people are victims of gun violence.
Solutions
1) Get the politics out of it
2) Dont let people who dont know anything about guns make laws concerning them.
3) The word "background check" needs to be at a Federal Standard so it applies to all states as it pertains to fi****ms.
4) Owning a firearm should be a privaledge , must show the proficiancy to use it and secure it and carry the insurance to back up the results of it. ( sorry but 2nd amendment was written under different circumstances )
5) If you want a firearm you must be willing to demonstrate that you are a responsible, Healthy, USA citizen in good standing. (common sense.)
6) If your caught with an unlicensed firearm committing a crime it should be a federal offense.
How do we do this ?
1) Federal Gun License Application. The same in every state.
2) 1st step applicant has to go to his local precinct (local) and be interviewed by a detective trained specifically for this purpose.
3) Applicant leaves the interview with forms that must be completed , such as family , work, church, medical questionaire/recommendations by the proper people
4) Applicant submits completed forms to Detective and follows up with 2nd interview.
5) Any type of non compliance can be addressed at that time
6) If Detective seems it approved applicant must then show proficiancy for weapon of choice and liability insurance as well as safeguard ability.
7) Every year a follow up interview should be conducted as well as a proficiency test and medical release must be obtained.
8) At any time during that year the applicant is subject to spot checks.
9) any allegations against the applicant must be investigated by Detective in local precinct before revoking his license.
RESULTS
1) it hurts on both sides of argument , good decisions usually do.
2) A mentally disturbed person would not be able to conform with this policy
3) Local precinct detective is the most likely to understand local needs and way of life in that area.
4) Most people wont want to go through this procedure ( then you really dont want to carry a firearm)
WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ITS A START IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
