Working on some colour reconstructions for a site on Mo'orea, French Polynesia.

Been a little side tracked lately with an project for an archaeological complex on Moorea . As an I am to have the flexibility to jump between painting and illustration- it keeps things fresh and helps me break out of my own head space. I seem to get a lot of painting ideas when I work digitally 😏 . . . .

Site reconstruction of some of the Agricultural Terraces of the Miloli'i Valley, Na Pali Coast, Kauai. A few years back I had the opportunity to visit this boat access only site to help map some of the terraces and complete in-field illustrations. Later I reconstructed a view of the terraces on the south side of the creek using site plans, aerial photography and historical photographs.

The terraces were predominately planted with wet and dry Taro, while breadfruit, sugar cane and ti were grown at the perimeter and around the houses. Complex irrigation systems using freshwater from up the creek flooded the terraces at different stages of Taro production.

It was a lot of fun working on this illustration and I am looking forward to a current project in the Opunohu Valley on Moorea, French Polynesia. Stay tuned for updates! :)
