Just wrapped up another custom off-grid power system, this time on a 2025 Heartland Eddie Bauer Edition fifth wheel.

The goal was simple: maximize off-grid capability while maintaining a clean, serviceable installation.

System Highlights:
• 1,200 watts of roof-mounted solar
• 400 watts of portable solar capability
• Victron SmartSolar 150/100 MPPT charge controller
• Victron SmartSolar 100/30 MPPT dedicated to portable solar
• Victron MultiPlus-II 12/3000/120 inverter/charger
• Three Renogy Core 300Ah lithium batteries (900Ah total)

This system gives the owner substantial battery capacity, multiple charging sources, and the ability to comfortably operate off-grid for extended periods.

This job has some perks. Doing a big install in Bandon, OR, a place I have never been in Oregon. It is simply beautiful here and the weather has been phenomenal. ⚡ Phase 2 Underway – Power System Taking Shape

After completing the 1,200W rooftop solar array, we’re moving into the heart of this Bandon, Oregon build.

This phase includes:

🔋 Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/100 dedicated to the 1,200W Renogy ShadowFlux rooftop array

☀️ Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/30 for a future portable solar connection, giving the owner additional charging capacity when parked in shaded campsites

🚐 Victron Orion XS DC-DC Charger to provide safe, controlled charging from the tow vehicle while traveling

⚡ Dual Victron Lynx Distributors to create a clean, expandable DC power distribution system with integrated fuse monitoring

The goal of this build is more than just adding components—it’s creating a system that is organized, serviceable, scalable, and reliable for years of off-grid camping.

The roof solar is installed, and now the electrical backbone is coming together. Next up: batteries, inverter/charger integration, system commissioning, and final testing.

Since this is a phase-of-the-build post, I’d focus on the solar array design and craftsmanship rather than the full electrical system.

☀️ Phase 1 Complete: 1,200W of Solar Installed

This Bandon, Oregon project is taking shape with the installation of six Renogy 200W ShadowFlux solar panels, delivering a total of 1,200 watts of rooftop solar capacity.

The array is configured in a 2S3P arrangement, providing approximately 71V and 17A to the future Victron SmartSolar 150/100 charge controller. Running higher PV voltage helps reduce current on the roof wiring while improving charging efficiency once the system is commissioned.

One thing I appreciate about the ShadowFlux panels is their low-profile appearance and ability to maximize available roof space while maintaining access to rooftop components for future service.

The electrical installation is still underway, but the solar foundation is now in place and ready for the next phase of the build.

🚐⚡ Another custom off-grid power system completed!

This 2023 Airstream Flying Cloud presented one of the most unique installation challenges we’ve tackled recently.

The owner’s goal was simple: maximize off-grid capability while keeping all of the equipment hidden beneath a dinette seat.

The reality? Not so simple.

Airstream cabinetry is built differently than most RVs, which meant carefully modifying and rebuilding portions of the interior just to create enough space for the system. What should have been a straightforward installation quickly turned into a custom fabrication project.

The finished system includes:

☀️ 600 Watts of Roof Solar
🔋 900Ah Lithium Battery Bank
⚡ Victron 3000W Inverter/Charger
❄️ Capability to support dual air conditioners
📱 Complete Victron monitoring and control

While installing the system, we also discovered a factory wiring issue that was causing the refrigerator breaker to trip every time the compressor started. After tracking down nearly 1.5 volts of unwanted voltage drop, we located a failed factory crimp connection, repaired it, and restored proper operation.

This is a great reminder that even brand-new RVs can have electrical issues hiding behind the walls.

Projects like this are why we love what we do. Every RV is different, every installation has its own challenges, and every customer leaves with a system designed specifically for how they travel.
