🔥 Do You Have What It Takes to Serve? 🔥

Proctor Fire Department is looking for the right people to serve our community. Not just bodies to fill a roster.

We are looking for people who do what they say they will do. People who work hard when no one is watching. People who can be confident while still checking their ego at the door. People willing to get out of bed in the middle of the night when someone in their community needs help.

We want individuals committed to learning, growing, training, and becoming part of a team that depends on one another. The fire service is built on trust, reliability, and teamwork. No one does this job alone.

As a department, we invest significant time, training, equipment, and resources into every firefighter and EMR who joins our team. Because of that, we are looking for people committed to serving for years to come and who truly care about the communities we protect.

A major need for our department is individuals who live or work in Proctor and may be available to respond during daytime hours. We understand this is a volunteer department and that our members balance careers, families, school, sports, and life outside the fire hall. Serving your community requires commitment, time management, and sometimes sacrificing personal time to fulfill the responsibility you accepted as a firefighter/EMR.

You do not need prior fire experience. We will provide the training. We are looking for character, commitment, and people willing to serve.

In return, you become part of a brotherhood and sisterhood built on trust, service, shared challenges, pride, and purpose. You gain lifelong friendships, valuable skills, and the opportunity to make a real difference when people need it most.

If you believe you have what it takes to be part of our team, we would love to hear from you. 🚒🤝🔥

Over the weekend, Proctor Fire Department firefighters assisted with the Stewart Trail Fire north of Two Harbors as part of the large multi-agency response to the wildfire.

On Friday, Captain Andy and Firefighter Steve responded with Truck 5 to assist with structure protection operations, working to extinguish hotspots around homes and buildings threatened by the fire. On Saturday, Captain Mark and Firefighter Steve returned to continue those efforts alongside crews from across the region.

Truck 5 is Proctor Fire Department's Type 6 brush truck, built on a Ford F-550 chassis with a utility bed and a 500-gallon water tank. Its smaller size and off-road capability make it well suited for wildland firefighting while still carrying an ample water supply for rapid response and structure protection operations.

The Stewart Trail Fire prompted evacuations and a significant emergency response as dry conditions and strong winds contributed to rapid fire growth in the area.

We are proud of our firefighters for their continued commitment to assisting neighboring communities and supporting regional firefighting efforts wherever they are needed.

Yesterday, members of the Proctor Fire Department responded to provide mutual aid assistance at a structure fire in Lakewood Township.

Assistant Chief Kris and Captain Andy assisted on scene by bringing Tanker 4, our water supply apparatus, and providing firefighter support for fire suppression operations alongside neighboring agencies.

Incidents like these are a reminder of the importance of mutual aid partnerships and the teamwork shared among departments across our region. We are proud to support our neighboring communities whenever help is needed. 🚒🤝🔥

🔥 Red Flag Warning in Effect Across Minnesota, Including Canosia Township

As of Monday, May 12, 2025, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for 80 counties in Minnesota, encompassing Canosia Township in St. Louis County. This warning signifies that current weather conditions—characterized by gusty winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures—are highly conducive to rapid wildfire spread.

đźš« Outdoor Burning Prohibited

During a Red Flag Warning, all forms of open burning are strictly prohibited. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will not issue or activate open burning permits, and campfires are strongly discouraged.

⚠️ Why Even a Small Spark Is Dangerous

In spring, before vegetation fully greens up, dead grass and brush remain extremely dry and flammable. Under these conditions, even a small spark—from activities like welding, using machinery, or discarding a cigarette—can ignite a wildfire. Such fires can spread rapidly, especially with the aid of strong winds, posing significant threats to property and safety.

📍 Local Impact: Canosia Township

Canosia Township, situated within the affected area, is experiencing these hazardous conditions. Residents should exercise extreme caution and adhere to all fire safety guidelines to protect the community and surrounding natural areas.

• Text Alerts: Text “FIRE” to 66468 to receive updates on wildfire risks and burning restrictions.

By remaining vigilant and following these guidelines, we can collectively reduce the risk of wildfires during this critical period.
