This evening at the monthly Prudential Board Meeting of Cavendish Fire District #1 (Proctorsville Fire District) our new Fire Chief was appointed and will begin July 1st as current Chief Robert W Glidden is retiring after 33 years as Chief and 56 total years of service at PFD.

Our New Fire Chief will be Robert C Glidden ( son of Chief Robert W Glidden) Currently he is our Deputy Fire Chief. Chief Robert C Glidden is a 31 year member of PFD and has held every position at PFD except for Chief. He is from a long line of Glidden’s to serve at PFD and will be the third consecutive Glidden to hold the position of Chief following in his grandfather and father’s footsteps.

Congratulations Chief Robert W Glidden on your retirement and congratulations to Chief Robert C Glidden on the promotion to Chief.

Promotions for Chief Glidden’s Line officers will take place and be announced in the next couple of weeks.

Here are some great pictures from Amethyst B. Photography that were taken of our crew at the GMUHS Alumni Parade yesterday. As always we had a few firefighters walking in the parade passing out candy to all the kids watching and some older kids too. 😉 This parade is one of our favorites and this year parade was no different. It was great to see so many people out yesterday enjoying the beautiful weather before the rain came.

At 3:11pm this afternoon our Deputy Chief was notified by his wife that there was a school bus crash at the bottom of the Proctorsville Gulf on Route 103. Deputy Chief Glidden notified Hartford Dispatch to page PFD and Ludlow Ambulance. Dispatch advised that Chester Fire and Ambulance have already been toned as they received a report that it was on 103 in Chester near Cavendish Road but they would tone PFD as well.

E2 , E1, and T1 responded with 13 responders. PFD E2 arrived on scene first and Deputy Glidden assumed the command. Ludlow and Chester Ambulances arrived as well and immediately began evaluating the bus passengers. Route 103 was temporarily closed to allow for responders to safely work. Command was quickly able to determine that further resources would not be needed and all further incoming resources were cancelled.

Chester Fire was released from the scene and returned to their firehouse. VT Department of Motor Vehicles responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.

The road was reopened to one lane around 4pm. PFD firefighters remained on scene doing traffic control while the bus was removed from the scene. All PFD apparatus and responders cleared the roadway at about 8:30pm.

Today’s fire affected a local first responder and his family. Chester Ambulance Deputy Chief Michael Randzio and his family lost their home to fire. Many area first responders rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire but the home suffered severe damage. Deputy Chief Randzio is always there to help others. Now he and his family could use support of the community. Please help if you’re able.

This morning at 10:02am Hartford Dispatch alerted us to respond for mutual aid to Cavendish for a CO alarm sounding. Cavendish Fire requested our assistance.

E2, and E1 responded with a crew of 5 firefighters. On scene our crew entered the structure with our 4 gas meter. No hazards were found and the building was turned back over to the contractors that were working there.

All crews cleared the scene and returned to quarters.
