Update today 10:55am. Plans have changed slightly and this afternoon all fire apparatus and personnel will be training in Chester at the elementary school on hydrant operations. Crews plan to be in Ludlow tomorrow.

There will be a large fire dept presence today at and across the road from the old Sam’s Steakhouse in Ludlow. Do not be alarmed. Area fire departments will be training together today and tomorrow on water supply operations. Please use caution in the area.

This afternoon several of our members joined area first responders in Ludlow to Honor those lost in the attacks of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center in New York City.

Today was the Ludlow Fire Department 5k race. Our Team wasn’t as large as the last couple years as some of our crew had prior engagements, we still had a great team none the less and they represented PFD very well. Congratulations to Firefighter Lisa Marks for her individual award for fastest female runner in her age group. And congratulations to team PFD for best appearing team for Ludlow’s mutual aid fire depts.

What really made today so special was that just 6 weeks ago Lieutenant Brendan McNamara was in surgery for cancer and awaiting an unknown prognosis but today with the amazing support of his Doctors, family, PFD family, friends, and the greater community he was in attendance today with team PFD and absolutely blessed to be alive and cancer free.

Okemo Valley Technical Rescue is on instagram. OVTR is a 501C3 non profit supporting the development of Technical Rescue Teams in Proctorsville, Weathersfield, Ludlow , Chester Plymouth, and Mt Holly.

Last evening our Tech Rescue personnel joined up with the Chester Fire Depts Tech Rescue team for some high angle rope rescue drills at a site on Route 35 in Chester.

All rope personnel practiced setting up rope systems, repelling, edge transfer, and being lowered using a twin-tension system.
These skills are utilized to lower personnel, access patients and raise patients and rescuers in a high angle environments.

These types of rescues are high risk low frequency events. It’s imperative that rescuers are very proficient in these skills to ensure our safety and that of those we are rescuing.

Thank you Chester Fire for this opportunity to train with your team and learn from each other. When these types of incidents arise we will no question be counting on each other for a successful rescue and outcome.

Some of our crew attended an Emergency Vehicle Driver Operator Course the last two days in Weathersfield. They attended the training with several other area firefighters. This course was instructed by the VT Fire Academy and hosted by the Weathersfield Fire Dept.

Taken tonight at the Depot St Salsa Party. The street is closed down until 9pm. Come on out and have some fun and learn some salsa 💃!!

We responded to this incident initially as a cover truck with E2 and 6 firefighters for Springfield Fire before being upgraded to establish a water supply. We ended up being cancelled before arriving on scene. Tanker 1 remained at PFD with a crew ready to go.
