5:30 AM SUN - Watching some of the bands of heavy rain across South Central VA and Roanoke Valley. These have had the history of rotation as they continue to push northward. We will likely have the threat for thunderstorms that could turn severe with the threat for isolated tornadoes, through much of this morning, before gradually pulling out of the area in the afternoon.

Some of you have asked what Thanksgiving is like in Canada…. This was last year in Calgary at a pub, having Thanksgiving dinner and watching the ball game. It was a very cool experience! Everyone is very thankful and you can feel the thankfulness and joy. A lot of business are open but close by mid-afternoon to have dinner with their families. 🦃 🇨🇦 ♥️

I am going to Canada to spend the week with friends for Canadian Thanksgiving, a tradition I’ve been doing for several years. Be safe and be prepared in case there is a tornado warning. Rainfall amounts will range 1 to 2 inches. Lower amounts across Far Southwest Virginia, and locally higher amounts of 2 to 3 inches along and near the Blue Ridge. Localized flash flooding is possible in poor drainage and low lying areas.

ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE ON SUNDAY....
- Isolated tornadoes are possible Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening, mainly for locations east of the Blue Ridge. There is a SLIGHT RISK (LEVEL 2) for the Richmond/Petersburg area and Hampton Roads.

FUTURE RADAR | Moderate rain develops across Southwest Virginia by early afternoon, with scattered light rain to the north and east. Widespread rain overnight into Sunday, which could be heavy at times. A few thunderstorms Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening could turn severe for locations east of the Blue Ridge. Isolated tornadoes are possible.

6 PM FRI 10/9/26 - ISAIAS is at category 3 strength with 115 mph winds. Isaias will make landfall tonight.

TIMING - Many have asked about the timing of rain on Saturday. Any rain that develops Saturday afternoon will be light and scattered…. with the exception of portions of Southwest Virginia, where there could be some pockets of heavy rain during the afternoon. The heaviest rain will not arrive until after dark. Heavy rain will continue overnight and into a portion of Sunday.

SEVERE WEATHER - While ISAIAS will have lost most of its tropical characteristics by the time the center is to the west of our area, there is a chance for a few thunderstorms on Sunday to become severe and produce isolated tornadoes.

RAIN - We are still looking at widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches. Locally 2 to 3+ inches will be possible across the Blue Ridge.

WIND - Gusty winds are possible across the highest elevations, and in thunderstorms.

🌧️ RAINFALL | LATE SATURDAY EVENING – SUNDAY

Rain is expected to develop across Southwest Virginia late Saturday evening before spreading north and east overnight and continuing through Sunday. Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are possible.

Rainfall totals: Widespread amounts of 0.75"–1.5" are expected, with localized totals potentially exceeding 2 inches.
