Do you ever want to change everything and strike out on a new path? A path that you can define as you go and reach a new state of happiness?
You can:
Define your new goals (what do you need to change, what type of life and existence would work better for you at this stage in your life)
Develop a realistic plan to get there, with all the steps to move start forward.
Weigh the pros and cons and go with it.
Let’s take a look at Sarah who did just that. At age 52, Sarah was burned out from her career – for years it continued to run her life, and was impacting her health, happiness and family. After 25 years devotion to her job, she was fearful she was being targeted for layoff.
Sarah decided to take control of her destiny. She was tired of answering to a boss and feeling unappreciated.
It was time for a change.
She wanted flexibility to choose her own hours, work when she wanted to, be able to run errands in the afternoon and not always after hours.
The key here is that she wanted flexibility.
Mindset – that is what changed in Sarah.
She struggled with how she was going to make it on her own.
How would she make ends meet?
What sacrifices could she make short term so she could live her dream?
Would she be able to start the small business as a side gig?
She knew that throughout her life that when she put her mind to something and gave it her all, stay focused and committed that she could achieve it.
Here are some of things that Sarah did to ensure her success:
1. Start with yourself
Changing her mindset was the first step. She knew she was successful in the past because she had belief in herself and knew that whatever she put her mind to she succeeded in.
She made some tough decisions. Gave up some friendships that were toxic and surrounded herself with positive people who believed in her.
She was positive about the sacrifices she had to make because she knew that in the end the reward was going to be huge. Every day she pushed through and overcame those hurdles.
And the best thing was, it was her choice to leave the corporate rat race and not the company’s choice.
2. Don’t be a commitment-phobe
Sarah had a passion for health! She was committed to taking care of herself and her family.
Because of this she shared her passion with everyone. She also helped everyone by offering solutions for them.
She educated herself, attended seminars, purchased training courses, and made all the right choices for her success.
She immersed herself into her love for people and health.
She never once thought, “oh am I going to make it?” She was strong in her belief in herself. These are strengths you need to be successful.
3. Don’t rush it — no emotional decisions
Sarah didn’t rush her decision to step away.
Luckily, she wasn’t forced into it.
She took the time and prepared for the transition. No emotion – just planned it.
She started her business as a side gig. Quickly she realized that this was the direction she wanted to take and left the corporate rat race.
4. Surround yourself with positive vibes
Sarah was strong in her beliefs and knew she would need a lot of support.
So what she did was she surrounded herself with positive friends, family and business colleagues. There were toxic relationships that she knew she needed to step away from.
Was is tough? You bet! But she knew in her heart that those needed to end.
She surrounded herself with good quality people who motivated and inspired her.
5. Set realistic money expectations
The difference between failure and success is all about expectations.
Sarah made herself a budget and set income goals that she felt she could realistically make in 3-month increments.
She also planned for the upfront investment and calculated out how long it would take her to recoup her investment.
Most importantly she figured what the bottom-line income she needed to live on and what expenses she could cut out of her budget.
