CGM SECURITY SOLUTIONS INC was founded by Erik Hoffer in 1972 and a manufacturer of adhesive, conductive and di-electric security type products focused on anti counterfeiting and intellectual property protection. Additionally CGM heled develop the coatings eventually used in applications like the stealth bomber, B52 started motor pack, cluster bomb and other specialized tactical applications. As a
manufacturer CGM did specialized coatings and patented items such as self wound security tape, self voiding adhesive tape, self voiding label stock, super seals, top clips for palletizing and over 10 other unique inventions which dealt with asset retention through physical and visually deterrent technology. As the company grew in product scope it morphed from manufacturing exclusively self adhesive products to locks and seals and eventually partnered with a few smaller companies to offer their products under one roof, all focused on transport security issues. Most of the products offered by CGM that are not barrier are chain of custody verifiable deterrent products used in packaging and shipping through every modality. CGM has been at the forefront of security products for many years. CGM was eventually sold to a few companies in parts based on the patented products included in each of the sales. Currently CGM no longer manufactures security tapes and seals nor locking bars or top clips. These were sold to CGM-NV a division of Nova Vision and fabulous company located in Ohio. CGM still participates with CGM-NV as a manufacturer’s representative and distributor for these items. CGM did retain 4 basic products including the TS4A, air brake lock system, TS3A patented trailer permanent glad hand lock, TS2A patented portable glad hand lock and the Sleep Safe strap. CGM also represents Babaco for it roll up and swing door locks, electronic key systems, GPS products and other special locks and devices for tractors and trailers. Erik Hoffer
Erik Hoffer is an inventor, entrepreneur, recognized expert and thought leader in the field of transportation and cargo security. He began his career in cargo security while serving in the U.S. military (’65-68), receiving training and experience while conducting port and logistic operations in Viet Nam. He received a degree in Transportation and Traffic Management in 1965 after which he entered the US Army. Upon discharge he attended and graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in Industrial Psychology in 1972. Today, he remains active in the field of military logistics security as a member of the U.S. Navy’s Lock and Seal engineering group and the NDTA. He has continued to develop new techniques technologies to
enhance cargo security on a global scale. His innovative devices for securing trucks and trailers are unsurpassed in the industry. Mr Hoffer holds numerous patents and has created dozens of security products and devices which are used today throughout the world for trailers, cartons, pallets and trucks. In his consultative role for CGM-NV, he is helping the new entity grow the sales and product platform that he developed at CGM Security Solutions Inc. Hoffer maintains an active security clearance with the U.S. Department of Defense, and consults regularly with the Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the U.S. Department of State, and private sector clients on a variety of air, sea and truck transportation security issues. As an educator, and while Chairman of the International Cargo Security Council’s Education committee for 5 years, Erik developed the Master’s program in cargo security for the Merchant Marine Academy’s Global Maritime and Transportation School (GMATS) and put on over 50 issue specific National seminars on best practices in cargo security and related issues. In demand as a teacher, and also a highly regarded public speaker, Erik is a frequent presenter on cargo security at seminars, conferences, and other events. Hoffer regularly appears on “Road Dog Trucker”, a radio show produced on Sirius radio specifically geared to security issues in the truck and transportation industry. Erik has authored many white papers on the topic of cargo security and best logistical practices in all logistic modalities, and he is a contributor to industry groups and trade publications including Air Cargo World, the American Trucking Association, Transport Topics, and Logistics Management. An innovative inventor and successful entrepreneur, Erik has created and contributed to over twenty original product technologies in and around cargo security and authenticity and holds many patents. These technologies include Tamper Evident tape, Super seals, TRAC seals, Topp Clips, TS4A tractor air brake lock, TS3A trailer glad hand lock and many others. He founded CGM Security Solutions, Inc. in 1977 to manufacture and market his patented technologies in barrier and indicative sealing devices. Hoffer created the first self wound tamper evident tape and for a considerable amount of time was the worlds only manufacturer. He sold the company to publicly-held business in 2005 and recovered it in 2011. Hoffer immediately sold the business to Novavision Inc of Bowling Green OH who has set up CGM-NV as a new entity who will manufacturer and market all of his products on a National and International basis. Outside of cargo security Mr Hoffer has developed a number of authenticity product platforms, many of which are ink based. He is an expert in conductive printing inks, adhesives and laminating technology and he was a significant contributor in areas of signal absorption inks, highly conductive and resistive chemistry, additive circuit printing for military equipment and many other unique constructions for use in both business and in tactical applications. He worked with the DOD on the cluster bombs, B52 starter packs, piezo panels, conductive and infra-red coatings and silicone adhesives. His latest two patents dealt with an air brake lock for tractor/trailers (2013) and in (2014) a patent on an infra-red absorbent nylon material used tactically by the military.
