This Juneteenth, The Descendants of Macedonia Church and Cemetery (DMCC) will be at the City of Johns Creek's Juneteenth Celebration sharing the history of Macedonia African Methodist Church Cemetery and the lives of those whose faith, labor, sacrifice, and perseverance helped build our community and our country.

Visit our booth to meet descendants, learn about the discovery of 177 additional burials, explore our preservation efforts, and discover how you can help protect this sacred piece of history.

Bell’s Rhythms Revealed is back! Join Mayor Pro Tem and District 5 Councilwoman Keosha B. Bell for Bell's Rhythms Revealed on Saturday, June 13, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Burdett Park!

This event will feature a blend of live jazz and R&B performances by Dee Hibbert & IndigoKat Soul Band along with a performance by Grammy-winning artist & Founding Member of the Group 112 Q Parker, spoken word presentations, and visual art exhibits from local artists.

A few months ago when I made my usual visit to the 1540 year old abandoned Macedonia Church and Cemetery at 9745 Medlock Bridge Road in Johns Creek, Georgia, I did not realize that we would find 177 additional unmarked burials.

The people buried there endured slavery, built a church, strengthened a community, and left a legacy that helped shape this nation.

Its not only Macedonia Church and Cemetery, it's a statewide issue

You won't find it on most travel guides.

Some aren't marked.

Some sit hidden behind trees.

Some were paved over.

Others were nearly lost to time.

Across Georgia, historic Black cemeteries hold the stories of teachers, veterans, business owners, church leaders, and families who helped build entire communities.

Many were neglected for decades.

Not because the people buried there were unimportant.

Because their stories were.

Or at least somebody hoped they would be.

Today, descendants and local historians are working to find these places again.

To clean them.

To document them.

To remember.

This Memorial Day, we pause not for celebration… but for remembrance.

At Hidden Voices LLC, Memorial Day carries a deeper meaning. As a small veteran-owned business founded by a Marine Corps veteran, we understand that behind every folded flag is a story, a sacrifice, and a family forever changed.
