A dry-erase board is designed to be wiped clean. Sadly, that's exactly what's happening to African American history.

Too many abandoned Black cemeteries have been treated like dry-erase boards—names erased, stories forgotten, and communities displaced.
It's time to buy our own whiteboard... and this time, write with a permanent marker.

At Macedonia Cemetery Johns Creek , and at countless neglected African American cemeteries across Georgia, we're reclaiming what others tried to erase. We are documenting names, restoring graves, preserving stories, and ensuring our ancestors' legacy can never be wiped away again.

History is only erased if we allow it to be. Our ancestors wrote it in sacrifice—we must preserve it in permanence.

History isn't just found in monuments—it is found in the people willing to remember.

In September 1868, the Camilla Massacre became one of Georgia's darkest Reconstruction-era tragedies. African Americans exercising their newly won civil rights were met with violence simply for demanding equality under the law.

While Macedonia Cemetery was established nearly two decades later in 1886, it stands as a testament to the resilience of those who endured Reconstruction and built communities of faith, family, and hope in its aftermath. Many of the men and women buried there lived through that turbulent period or were the children of those who did.

Today, DMCC continues that legacy by preserving one of North Fulton's oldest African American cemeteries—not just protecting graves, but honoring lives that helped shape Georgia's history.

Every restored cemetery, every identified ancestor, and every story told is an act of historical justice.

As the saying goes:

"A people who know where they came from cannot easily be erased."

Join us as we preserve Macedonia Cemetery so future generations will remember not only how our ancestors suffered—but how they persevered.

Our story. Our responsibility.

Every cemetery has a story. Every grave has a voice.

Our documentary is more than a film—it is a testament to the resilience of the descendants, volunteers, researchers, and community partners working together to preserve the Macedonia Church and Cemetery. Through archaeology, genealogy, historical research, and the voices of descendants, we are reconnecting families with ancestors whose stories deserve to be remembered.

This is more than the story of one cemetery. It is a story of faith, perseverance, family, and the enduring importance of protecting African American history for future generations.

From above, it's just a beautiful landscape.
But look closer.
This aerial view captures what was once George Waters' plantation, known as Warsaw—a place where generations lived, labored, worshipped, and were ultimately laid to rest. Beneath these trees lies Macedonia Cemetery, where forgotten stories are waiting to be rediscovered.
Every descendant deserves to know where their family's story began. Every ancestor deserves to be remembered.
Help us preserve this sacred place through restoration, genealogy, storytelling, and education.
Because when we reconnect descendants with their ancestors, we restore more than a cemetery—we restore history.
