Do You Know It? 💭

Ever wonder why tempered glass shatters into tiny pebbles instead of big sharp shards? It’s not a defect — it’s the whole point.

Here’s why:
1. It’s under crazy internal stress
Tempered glass is heated to 1200°F, then blasted with cold air. This puts the outside surfaces in compression and the inside in tension. Like a spring that’s wound tight. When it breaks, all that energy releases at once.

2. That stress = safety
When the glass finally gives, it can’t form large, dangerous shards. The tension network fractures the whole panel into small, dull cubes. You’ll get a pile of crumbs, not knives.

3. One chip can set it off
Because it’s stressed, damage to the edge or a deep scratch can cause the entire piece to let go — sometimes hours or days later. That “spontaneous” break? It had help.

4. It’s designed for this
Building codes require tempered glass in doors, showers, railings, and storefronts for exactly this reason. If it breaks, it’s far less likely to cause serious injury.

So if your shower door ever explodes into a thousand pieces, the glass actually did its job.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani is officially converting 50 school blocks across the five boroughs into temporary, car-free "Soccer Streets".

Instead of traffic and parking spaces, these blocks are being completely transformed into vibrant, safe neighborhood mini-pitches!What’s coming to the neighborhoods:🏃‍♂️

Free youth soccer clinics and pop-up drills.🎨
Art stations and creative workshops for local students.🥳
