I have stayed away from posting tech device articles. After 30 years I have essentially closed up my tech consulting business. HOWEVER, I still read the articles and try to stay on top of the tech. Felt this was important to share. Apparently BRAMD NEW SAMSUNG DEVICES are having compatability issues with some applications. Read the article and almost dropped my phone when they said Adobe and Google products were NOT working, but a fix was in the works. Would hate to have a teacher friend buy a new device and find out that they can't use Google classroom or Adobe Acrobat. Ugh. P.S. Tom's Guide is a GREAT source to go to for easy to read tech information.

The time has come for Widows 11. No need to rush into a new OS just yet. Still not many have upgraded, (and that includes me too!) Having the approved hardware is going to be a big limiting factor. But this link provides details for those hell bent on trying 11 without having to buy an approved processor. Not advocating this, just putting it here so I can come back later with a burner PC to see if it works!

Long time no updates. Hoping to change that in the New Year. I have scaled back operations to insure quality support to my existing clients and focus on family and other issues. With that being said, I have a warning or all laptop users that is fairly urgent and important. When I first started this back in 1995, I cautioned all users to avoid installing updates as soon as they were released. Windows 3.x, Windows 95, and Windows NT were notorious for being released before compatibility was confirmed for all the different brands of hardware out there. Updates could really slow or even destroy a computers machine to operate. Over the years, Microsoft and computer manufacturers have worked very hard on this. So my position became one of installing the updates as they became available. Microsoft even began a push to install the updates automatically on Update Tuesday, sometimes causing small slowdowns, but overall, the good outweighed the negatives of not having features and security updates installed. However, there have been a number of updates brought to my attention recently that have prompted this warning. Do NOT install any updates to your computers BIOS without checking them out FIRST. Either Google the manufacturer and the BIOS update, or contact me first. Recently, some of these BIOS updates, which CANNOT be undone, causing permanent and irreversible damage to the laptops. Specifically, laptops, and specifically damaging charging ports which render the laptops unable to be charged, or causing excessive heat to build up while in a sleep mode, potentially leading to further damage and even fires if put in sleep mode and then placed inside an enclosed carrying bag. It is pretty bad, and manufacturers are claiming 0 responsibility for the damage to machines, in or out of warranty, claiming it is a 3rd party vendors error causing the problem. No one wants to here that. Check with me ahead of time to avoid aggravation. Windows 10 problems continue for many, unfortunately. Microsoft needs to get their act together. Hopefully the new release in March will straighten things out again. Until then, backup frequently and reboot machine daily to avoid unexpected update issues. As a reminder, Tuesdays are the days when updates are sent out and usually installed on Tuesday night or Wednesday in the morning. Microsoft could finally be solving one of Windows 10's biggest irritations: automatic updates. Winaero’s Sergey Tkachenko noticed a new feature that would allow users to delay an update for up to 35 days in a recent leaked build of the Windows 10 Creator Update.

A number of my Windows 10 using clients have called this week with strange behaviors. Systems freezing, shutting down in the middle of work for no reason, etc. Now it just happened to me. A quick search revealed this http://www.express.co.uk/life-style/science-technology/717115/Windows-10-Anniversary-Update-Install-Problems-Fail. Windows decided NOW was the time. Computer froze. Rebooted and it said that Windows updates were installing. Grr... Patience is a virtue being worn thin with some of Microsoft's latest actions. Even finding which version (Build number) you are using has been "hidden" with Windows 10. Want to learn more? Follow in the comments!

MICROSOFT have hit another snag with its Windows 10 Anniversary Update, with the latest version of the operating system causing installation issues for a number of users.

Not directly computer related, but definitely technology related. I have been hit by this as have a number of family members. The numbers that show up on the caller ID match the area code and first three numbers of your phone number, so you think it is someone local. Do NOT be fooled and do NOT call back. Who’s calling now? That number doesn’t ring a bell. Hold the phone, says the Federal Trade Commission. You could be a potential victim of the growing "one-ring” cell phone scam.

This is unacceptable. HP tried something similar years ago on their laptops that had hard drives replaced or upgraded and was rightfully sued. The same should happen here.

It’s the message that spells doom and will render your handset worthless if it’s been repaired by a third party. But there’s no warning and no fix

As those of you who own computers using Windows XP may have found out (by a strange pop up on your screen), support for the Operating System (OS) is being discontinued as of April 8, 2014. New virus being spread by e-mail. Subject line is "Here you have". Definitely not a hoax. Have one client whose e-mail has dozens of these messages in it already.
