🚨 Plumas County small businesses: want to learn how to sell to the State of California?

Our partners at ChicoSTART are sharing a workshop focused on state small business certification and how to compete for California state contracts. This matters because California has a goal of awarding at least 25% of its contract dollars to certified small businesses and 3% to Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises (DVBE).

This workshop will cover:
✔️ how the certification process works
✔️ how to navigate state procurement systems
✔️ how to identify contracting opportunities

For Plumas County entrepreneurs, this could be especially valuable if you provide products or services that might fit public-sector purchasing — from construction and trades to office support, consulting, tech, manufacturing, food products, and more.

American Rescue Plan Act funds helped us strengthen small business support and expand economic access across Plumas County—so local owners and makers can stay visible, stay compliant, and keep dollars circulating locally.

We put the numbers and methods in one place here (and we’ll keep updating it):
👉

In December 2024, Plumas County approved ARPA-funded agreements to strengthen local business support capacity. Here’s what IVIH’s allocation supported, what we delivered, and the outcomes we tracked.

Competing with people is a waste of oxygen.

You cannot outdo someone by pretending to be them.

The moment you chase their style, you lose your edge.

Stay original. Stay obsessed with your own progress.

Win your mornings. Win your habits. Win your standards.

That is the only competition that pays.

Everyone else is just noise.

Let them compare.

Let them posture.

You build.

You improve.

You execute.

And when your results show up, it will be obvious why you never had time to compete in the first place.

📣 Plumas County businesses + entrepreneurs: this is a big one.

Our partners at ChicoSTART are flagging the next California Competes Tax Credit application window — a competitive state program (run through GO-Biz) that can reduce your California income tax bill if you’re planning a real “growth project” in the state (think: hiring, wage growth, expanding operations, purchasing equipment, or making a meaningful investment). In exchange, awardees commit to measurable milestones over time.

🗓 Application window: Jan 5–Jan 26, 2026 (deadline Jan 26 at 11:59pm)
💻 Free webinars (walk-through + criteria): Jan 7 (9:30am) and Jan 15 (3:00pm)

If you’re a Plumas County business with a growth plan on the horizon, it’s worth taking 10 minutes to look at the eligibility/criteria and decide if this fits your next move. And if you’re unsure, hop on a webinar — they spell out exactly what they’re looking for. 👀

The next California Competes Tax Credit application period begins Monday, January 5th, with $308 million in available tax credits!

Businesses interested in applying can register to attend a WEBINAR outlining the program, application steps and evaluation criteria:

January 7, 2026 | 9:30 AM
AND
January 15, 2026 | 3 PM

❗️The application can be accessed calcompetes.ca.gov and the deadline to submit is Monday, January 26, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
