In the midst of the fires and smoke here in the Feather River Country, and across California, here is a beautiful creekside meditation alongside Spanish Creek from Feather River Land Trust.

A soothing moment by Spanish Creek, and a reminder for today: Your heart is still in your chest. Air is still in your lungs. Hope is still in your hands. Gra...

Good things happening at Quincy Collective! Much of the planning, strategizing, and writing for the Feather River Land Trust's new website happened right here, working with a kickass remote team.

You may have recently noticed a new look and feel from from FRLT—we invite you to visit our brand new website! It's been over a year in the making and is designed with our members in mind (thank you for taking our survey last year!). Check out frlt.org and get to know your local land trust all over again!

A good way to help neighbors in need, if you are able.

There is a new way to give to families in need in Plumas County. The Plumas County Cal Fresh Program has launched a giving portal for the food banks in the five major communities of the Feather River region. If you are able, donations of any size greatly help people facing food insecurity. https://plumascounty.us/2697/Donate-Food

Beautiful photography alert! Our friends over at Feather River Land Trust are hosting a social media takeover this week featuring the photography photographer, Betty Bishop, showcasing the beauty of the Lake Almanor area.

You might enjoy following their page. Two weeks ago the takeover featured Andy Wright's breathtaking photography of Sierra Valley.

This week, longtime Chester resident and FRLT member Betty Bishop is taking over our social media! Betty is often found walking the land at Olsen Barn Meadow or paddling the nearby waters in her kayak, always, with camera in hand. She captured this peaceful image of the meadow and barn on film many years ago.

"I live across from the barn, so I can see it in its many 'moods.' I've said before, I don't really photograph the barn, I photograph the light out in the meadow, and the barn is part of the package. Light is the key to photography. It changes all the time, and there are times when you only have a few minutes to capture a scene, then the light changes and it's gone." -Betty Bishop

Betty's work can be found at Main Street Artists Gallery and Plumas Arts in Quincy, and at Mountain Custom Framing and B&B Booksellers in Chester. mainstreetartists.net/betty-bishop

Food drive next Thursday at Quincy CAN to support our neighbors. There's also info on how to make a monetary contribution.

If you weren't able to contribute to the Plumas County food drive today there is another opportunity next Thursday, April 16th. Monetary donations are also needed to support local families and individuals experiencing extreme hardship during this public health crisis. For those with the financial means, consider writing a check to the Plumas Crisis Intervention and Resource Center (PCIRC) for any amount. The Resource Center is the fiscal agent for the Portola and Quincy food banks and operates a satellite food bank out of their Quincy office. PCIRC provides other important services including housing services, a crisis hotline, and counseling support. If you would like to designate your donation directly to the food bank, write in “CAN” or “Community Action Network” on your check memo.

Mailing address for donations: PCIRC, 591 West Main St. Quincy, CA 95971

At QC, we get to work and play in the heart of the Feather River country. Check out this documentary created by wilderness that takes a look at why the Wild & Scenic Middle Fork Feather River is a special place that means so much to so many of us.

https://plumaswilderness.org/visions-of-the-lost-sierra/

Did you know that it was 1 of the first of 8 rivers in the country protected by Congress through the National Wild & Scenic Rivers Act in 1968? However, the Act only protects a half-mile wide corridor along the Middle Fork. That means other public lands and rivers in our region remain threatened by illegal roads, dumping, ma*****na grows, and dredging—potentially polluting the primary water source for 27 million Californians. Furthermore, an increased pressure to build more dams in California jeopardizes our region’s untamed, free-flowing rivers.

The beautiful film looks at the original work done by local wild river advocates in the 60s and addresses why we need to continue to push for more protections.

It’s a short film but if you don’t have 14 minutes to watch it, please take a minute to fill out the petition to expand wilderness designations in our region to permanently protect more public lands and rivers https://plumaswilderness.org/protect-californias-water/

This short documentary was produced in 2018 for the 50th anniversary of the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act. After touring film festivals in two dozen cities, it's now available online. Watch it here!
