Rob Hoos Coffee Consulting I am an educator, author, and coffee roasting consultant. I started out behind the roaster myself, driven by curiosity about why coffee behaves the way it does.

I'm fortunate enough to have a diverse range of experience within the specialty coffee industry doing everything from green coffee buying to setting up roasteries. I’ve been working in specialty coffee for more than 16 years, and for most of that time I’ve been focused on one thing: helping people roast better coffee. That curiosity quickly turned into a career dedicated to blending science, craft

, and community in coffee roasting. Today, I run Hoos Coffee Consulting, where I work with roasters around the world—helping them troubleshoot machines, refine roast curves, design production spaces, and most importantly, gain confidence and control over flavor. Alongside consulting, I’ve built a mentorship community that connects roasters globally, creating space for collaboration, experimentation, and growth. I’m also the author of several books, including Modulating the Flavor Profile of Coffee and Cultivar: A Practical Guide for Coffee Roasters, which share the results of years of hands-on research and experimentation. Through these projects, I aim to make complex coffee concepts practical, accessible, and actionable for roasters at any stage. My work has taken me from one-on-one coaching and in-person training sessions to speaking at international coffee events, publishing research-driven resources, and leading an online community of roasting professionals. Whether it’s through consulting, writing, or teaching, my goal is the same: to empower coffee roasters with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to achieve their goals.
