I loved guesting on the Seven Sisters Alum Association podcast! We talked all things end-of-life planning (of course) but I especially loved reflecting on how my college experience influenced the rest of my life. So grateful for the opportunity to share!!!

If you think you're "All Set" because you have a will or other estate planning documents done.....

Well, you might be! But, you might not. It's a coin flip (literally), but you can rig the game by reviewing your accounts and assets to make sure they align with your estate plans. I spend a good chunk of time doing this with my Advance Planning clients, and we almost find something to fix.

I loved Rules of Inheritance and have had Grief: The Missing Stage of Anxiety on my TBR for a while now....I knew I would find her clear, empathetic voice in the pages, but didn't realize how effectively she would make the case for After Loss support and Advance Planning measures. I think this will become a yearly read for me!!

Census data tells us that about 23% of 30-somethings have experienced the loss of a parent, but that number jumps to 43% for 40-somethings and to over 75% once you get into the 50's.

What does this mean?

While we are not into doom and gloom around here, we are into honest conversations and thoughtful preparation. No matter what age you are, if your parents are living (or if you are the parent of an adult child) the time to start planning is before you feel like you need to.....

A new data visualization shows patterns in parent mortality by age, s*x, race and ethnicity for 2019 and 2021.

Let's talk about gifts (with a twist):
Over the last few weeks I've had the chance to work with two different families navigating organ and tissue donation. Here's what I've learned.

1. It is not always as simple as checking a box on your driver's license. States, healthcare systems, and the federal government all have different systems and processes.

2. Tissue donations for scientific research are even more complicated. Lots of people like the idea of "donating their body to science," but it requires pre-planning and careful coordination between hospitals, funeral providers, and research institutions

3. Organ and tissue donation is an incredible gift - not only for the recipients, but for donors and their families. I've been so moved to be a part of it in the work that I do.
