Three weeks ago, I parted ways with WhoHire. A week later, my relationship ended. Years ago, these events would have wrecked me. I would’ve spiraled, numbing the pain with alcohol. But today? The opposite happened.

When I saw the transition coming, I hit my knees, asked God for guidance, went to a meeting, called my sponsor, and leaned on my network. When my relationship ended, I did the same thing.

I’ve never been more in the middle of my recovery or closer to God than I am now. In the past, I resisted asking for help—and suffered longer because of it. This time, I took action, and it worked.

You might think I’ve had a streak of bad luck, but I see it differently. Sometimes what feels like the worst thing ends up being the best thing. When I focus on helping others without expectations, that’s when the magic happens.

Self-reflection has shown me my part in all of this, and now I can grow. That’s the gift of recovery. If you’re struggling, take an honest look at your part, take action, and trust the process. It worked for me—I believe it can work for you, too.
