Most founders don’t have a growth problem.

They have a phase problem.

They’re trying to scale a business that hasn’t earned scale yet.

If you’re already working 60 hours a week, that’s not a badge of honor.

That’s a signal your business is running on founder horsepower instead of operational leverage.

And here’s the part people don’t like hearing.

Hiring a “super salesperson” won’t fix that.

It usually just exposes it faster.

If you haven’t defined why customers should do business with you, your sales process becomes improvisation.

If you haven’t strengthened your distinctive competencies, you’re competing on urgency, price, or personality.

That’s not a moat.

That’s exhaustion dressed up as ambition.

Every business moves through phases.

Different constraints.

There is a lot of noise out there. A lot of "gurus" selling one-size-fits-all tactics that frankly, are just bogus
They don't know your business. They don't know if you’re a startup in Durham or a legacy firm in Charlotte. Applying a tactic just because it worked for someone else is a recipe for disaster. What works for them right now is likely different from what works for you right now.

The turning point for most of my clients wasn't a new software or a viral post. It was a simple "reset" conversation where we identified exactly where the business was broken.

We all want good people. But I see so many folks in the Triangle trying to hire their way out of a structural problem.

You get seduced into thinking, "If I just get a better sales guy" or "If I hire a new operations manager," everything will smooth out. But if you don’t have a razor-clear understanding of your priorities, you’re just bringing good people into a bad system. It’s expensive and it hurts your reputation.

Most owners I speak with think they know their priorities, but after a 15-minute chat, they realize they were focusing on Step 10 when they haven't finished Step 2.
