Chuck Underwood's Father’s Day tradition is watching the US Open.

In the past, his wife would leave him alone Sunday afternoon and evening, as she had no interest in watching men hit a ball with a stick over and over. Thanks to Netflix, this year is different.

Chuck and his wife stumbled on to the show “Full Swing,” a behind-the-scenes look at the PGA tour. They loved the personal stories, and now when a golf tournament is on, she watches with him since she has a new-found connection to the golfers (well done Netflix and PGA).

One of their favorite episodes was not about a golfer, but his caddie. Ted Scott is the caddie for golfer Scottie Scheffler, the world’s #1 golfer. Scheffler credited much of his success to convincing Scott to be his caddie. Scott’s experience and guidance help Scheffler stay level-headed during the ups-and-downs of each round, which is critical to winning golf tournaments. Together, they are on a historic run of success.

As Chuck watches golfers fall apart on the last holes of this extremely difficult tournament, he realizes that Metro’s job is to be that caddie who helps clients be successful.

Metro has to use its experience and guidance to keep clients level-headed to make sure their important projects are successful.

P.S. Congrats to JJ Spaun – amazing comeback and way to finish it!

We’re Celebrating Our Anniversary...But Why 36? 🤷‍♂️

In numerology the number 36 symbolizes creativity, enthusiasm, and the use of imagination and intellect to bring about desired results. Turning 36 is a perfect reason for Metro to celebrate since that is exactly what we do every day to help our clients succeed. Over the year we’ll celebrate our anniversary and the number 36 in different ways, and we hope you’ll join us.

We start the celebration today (08/04/24 – which of course adds up to 36) with the story of how we began.

In August of 1988, Tom Sturdivant, his son Gary and his brother-in-law Charles Underwood opened Metro Litho, a small, short run printing and copy shop. For decades, Tom had owned and operated Piedmont Litho on Hillsborough Street underneath Western Lanes Bowling Alley and Brother’s Pizza (now Target). A few years after selling his business and retiring, he “un-retired” and joined Gary and Charles in opening the new company five miles down the road from the original shop.

Gary left the business after finding his calling in The Salvation Army, and in 1991 Charles’ wife Clara and son Chuck began working in the business. What started as a small print shop quickly grew as the company took advantage of new technologies to expand creative services for their clients. After adding design, mail, web design and video production services, the company changed its name to Metro Productions and moved to a larger building.

Thirty-six years later the world of printing and communication is drastically different. Metro Litho, originally known for quick copy and offset printing, is now Metro, known for fully integrated marketing communications. However, what’s still the same is we’re a family run business dedicated to fanatical customer service that clients can always count on.

Last month, SAFEchild held their successful 2024 Blue Ribbon Gala event, and asked us to create something we’ve never done before – custom lantern domes! These looked amazing on the tables, adding dimension and reinforcing their brand and mission. Thanks for always looking for ways to challenge us to make something different, and for letting us help make you look good!
