If your “backup plan” is staring at your laptop and saying, “don’t you DARE,” we need to make a change, y’all.

Because computers are dramatic:
They work fine for years…
then pass away on a random Tuesday at 2:17pm when you need FINAL_final_v7_REALLYfinal.

Now...if we handle your backups, your business backups are covered.

But we’re a B2B company. We don’t do residential backups… but I still care about YOU.
I do not want you panicking because you lost everything on your home laptop and then clicking a shady “recovery” link that turns into a phishing mess.

So use the schedule in the graphic for the stuff that matters:

Family photos: weekly
Work/project files: daily
Tax documents: monthly
PowerPoints: before big meetings
Music library: weekends

Y’all ever notice how excited people get when tech support simply calls them back?

The reviews always crack me up a little:
“Very quick.”
“Helpful.”
“Always on point.”

Which tells me a whole lotta companies out there are setting the bar somewhere down near ground level.

At 2 Dog Digital, we try real hard to do the radical things:
Answer people.
Communicate.
Fix the issue.
Follow up.
Not vanish like a possum in tall grass.

Small business owners don’t need perfection. They need somebody dependable when the wheels start wobbling.

And judging by these reviews, apparently that still stands out.

We appreciate every single person who trusts us with their business. Even when the printer’s fighting demons and Outlook decides to develop a personality disorder before lunch.

Y’all ever had something go missing from your purse… and you didn’t even realize it until two weeks later when the bank called?

That’s infostealer malware.

It doesn’t lock your files and demand ransom like the movies.
It grabs what’s already sitting there-saved passwords, autofill, those “remember me” logins-and ships it off.

Then later, somebody you’ve never met buys your credentials for pocket change and uses them to stroll into your email, QuickBooks, payroll, or client portals like they pay rent.

And the WORST part?
Most folks don’t find out because “the computer acted weird.”
They find out because money moved… or clients start calling… or the ransomware shows up after the fact.

Dottie’s cybersecurity confession of the day:

I think MFA is annoying too.

There’s always that moment where your phone is somehow:

upstairs
in your purse
under the dog
or at 2% battery

But cybercriminals absolutely LOVE businesses that skip it.

Because once somebody steals a password, no MFA means they can walk right in like they own the place.

That extra little code is annoying on purpose.
It’s supposed to stop strangers too.

So yes.
It’s a pain.

So is identity theft.

Y'all, I am going to keep this simple today.

Memorial Day gets treated like the start of summer around most of the country. And I understand that. The sun is out and the grill is going and I am not going to begrudge anybody a good potato salad.

But somewhere today a mama is putting flowers on a headstone. A family is standing next to a folded flag trying to find the words. A child is old enough to understand now what that flag actually means and why daddy is not at the cookout.

Richard DePierro and Ami DePierro wore that uniform. They know what it costs. And that is why when we say we are grateful today, we mean it in our bones.

To everyone who gave everything, and to the families who carry them every single day, we are thinking of you.

Take a moment today, y'all. Just a moment.

Dottie’s cybersecurity tip of the day:

If an email makes you panic, rush, react emotionally, or suddenly feel like you forgot to do something important…

…that may not be an accident.

Modern phishing attacks are getting creepy specific.

Not “Dear Valued Customer.”

More like:
“Hey Jim, attached is the revised proposal from the client call yesterday.”

And poor Jim DID have a client call yesterday.

That’s why spear phishing works. The criminals are paying attention now.

They’re stalking company websites, LinkedIn profiles, vendor names, conference photos, employee titles, and even vacation autoresponders to build emails that look frighteningly real.

This week’s blog digs into how these attacks actually work and the mistakes small businesses keep making.

Because unfortunately, “my staff knows better” is not a cybersecurity strategy.

Sugar, if y’all are typing passwords, tax returns, confidential contracts, or employee drama into random AI tools, I'm gonna be 2 pearls away from a full medical episode.

I need everybody to understand something:
ChatGPT is not your therapist.
Claude is not your compliance officer.
Perplexity is not your Ouija board
And “SuperBrain AI Helper 3000” downloaded from a pop-up ad absolutely is not your secure document vault.

Every week I see somebody casually pasting:
• passwords
• tax documents
• employee drama
• confidential contracts
• customer lists
• legal messes
• security configs
• source code
• “just a quick proposal rewrite”

Honey. No.
That’s not “leveraging AI.”

And before somebody says:
“But the AI company says my data is safe!”
Bless your heart. The gas station sushi says, “fresh”

That depends on:
• WHICH tool
• WHICH version
• WHICH settings
• WHICH browser extension
• WHICH employee just installed something named “ChatGPT Ultra Pro Max FREE”

Half these companies don’t even know employees are using AI already.

Debbie in accounting is uploading spreadsheets.
Kyle in sales is generating proposals.
Steve in operations is asking AI to “rewrite this confidential client escalation email so I sound less angry.”

Steve probably SHOULD sound angry.

Meanwhile leadership is sitting in a meeting talking about “future AI strategy” while the barn cat already drove the tractor into the lake.

If your company doesn’t have:
• approved AI tools
• written policies
• employee training
• permission levels
• data classification
• human review requirements

…then folks are probably making it up as they go.

And that tends to end about as well as a raccoon loose in a Buc-ee’s.

AI is useful.
I love AI. I use AI. Half the reason I can keep up with Digit’s grumpy behind is because AI helps move things faster.

But good gravy, use some common sense.

If you wouldn’t hand the information to a stranger in a Waffle House parking lot, don’t paste it into a chatbot.

Honey.

Some businesses are turning on AI right now with the same level of planning people use before cutting their own bangs.

Just pure confidence and absolutely no supervision.

Everybody wants Microsoft Copilot.
Everybody wants ChatGPT.
Everybody wants “AI productivity.”

But nobody wants to talk about the fact that their employee permissions are held together with duct tape, vibes, and a prayer circle.

I’m talking about:
• employees with access to folders from 2019
• payroll files sitting in shared drives
• former staff accounts still active
• “temporary” permissions nobody ever removed
• 47 versions of the same spreadsheet named FINAL_FINAL_v3_USE_THIS_ONE

Then folks plug AI into the system and act shocked when it starts finding things.

Sugar, that’s what it DOES.

AI is basically the world’s fastest nosy assistant.

And if your business is disorganized, AI will expose that mess quicker than a church lady spotting boxed mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving.

Y'all. Do you see this face? This is my NOT AMUSED face. I know, I know, I'm still beautiful, but inside my pearls are truly clutching.....

Somebody out there has been sending fake invoices to small businesses under the name Blue Rocket SEO, and they had the absolute NERVE to try it on my watch. I did not put on my good bow for this foolishness.

Here is how it works. You get an invoice, faxed or emailed, for SEO or web monitoring services you never ordered from a company you have never heard of. It looks official. It has your business name, an account number, the whole production. The amount is usually right around ninety-five dollars. Just low enough that a busy business owner might pay it without blinking. That is not an accident, honey. That is a strategy and it works.

There is no real company. There is no real service. There is just somebody in a PO box in Texas hoping you are too swamped to ask questions.

Do not pay it. Richard DePierro and Ami DePierro did not build this business to watch somebody pick your pocket with a fake invoice, and we are not about to start now.

And if it has already happened, report it to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

I have got my caution tape out and I am not moving until every last one of you has seen this post. Share it. Somebody you know needs it.
