Browser says, “Don’t worry, sugar. I’ll remember that password for you.”

And that is mighty convenient. Right up until someone gets access to your browser.

Saving passwords in Chrome, Edge, or another browser may be better than reusing the same password everywhere, but it’s not the same thing as using a dedicated password manager.

A good password manager gives you one secure place for your logins, helps you create strong, unique passwords, and makes it much easier to stop using variations of Fluffy123 across half the internet. (Fluffy deserves better security than that.)

And while we’re cleaning up bad password habits, turn on MFA wherever you can.

Convenience is lovely. Convenience with a little security behind it is even better.

Well, Holly just went and said one of my favorite things anyone can say about an IT company.

Y’all, people call us because they don’t know something. If everybody already knew why Outlook was pitching a fit, what that security warning meant, or why the printer had suddenly chosen violence, there wouldn’t be much need for us.

Our technicians know more about IT than most of our clients. They should. That’s what they do all day.

But knowing more about something doesn’t give you permission to make somebody else feel small for asking about it.

A good technician fixes the problem.

A really good technician can explain what happened in plain English, answer your questions, and send you back to work knowing a little more than you did before.

Yes, I will be hack a computer in 9 seconds tomorrow to demonstrate how bad actors can bypass common security plans and without the proper Cybersecurity setup.

Well, y’all, Richard DePierro is speaking at Purposed Networking Page Wednesday morning, and apparently he plans to hack something before most of us have finished our first cup of coffee.

He’ll be demonstrating a 9-second hack.
Nine seconds.

I’ve seen humans spend longer than that staring at an email trying to decide whether the link looks suspicious. Bless their hearts.

There aren't many things that make me madder than a tick on a hound, but folks using AI to trick hardworking people out of their money is right up there.

These scammers aren't just sending sloppy emails anymore. They're cloning voices, faking video calls, and counting on you to trust what you hear.

Well... bless their hearts.

I've noticed something.

Most businesses don't wake up one morning and decide to have a BYOD program.

It just... happens.

Somebody checks work email on their personal phone. Someone else finishes a proposal on their home laptop. Before long, company data is living on devices nobody ever planned for.

Now, that doesn't make your employees the bad guys. Most folks are just trying to get their work done.

But it does mean your business needs a plan.

I was watching some folks clean out an office one afternoon.

They gathered up the laptop. Picked up the office keys. Even remembered the little plant that somehow survived three years without anybody watering it.

Everybody smiled, wished each other well, and headed home.

Then somebody said, "We'll disable their accounts tomorrow."

Bless your heart.

Computers don't know somebody doesn't work here anymore.

An email account that's still active is still a doorway. So is Microsoft 365, remote access, the VPN, and every other account that was part of that employee's job. Most former employees would never misuse that access, but good security isn't built on hoping everyone always does the right thing.

That's why offboarding should be a checklist, not a memory.

• Disable user accounts immediately
• Sign out active sessions
• Remove MFA devices and security keys
• Recover company devices
• Review shared passwords and admin access

Around here, we like ending employment on good terms.

We also like making sure every digital door is locked before everyone goes home.

Y'all know what makes me smile?

When someone says, "We need to buy Copilot for everybody."

Well... maybe.

Maybe not.

Ami DePierro uses Microsoft 365 Copilot every single day because her job is keeping track of clients, projects, meetings, emails, Teams conversations, vendors, and about a hundred other moving pieces. It saves her time because that's the kind of work she does.

Our technicians have different jobs. A field employee has different needs than a business owner. An office manager works differently than an estimator.

That's why one-size-fits-all technology decisions usually don't fit anybody very well.

The best technology isn't the one with the biggest price tag. It's the one that helps that person do their job better.

You know what gets me?

Most folks think safe browsing just means avoiding the obvious scams. You know, the emails promising millions of dollars or the pop-up that says you've won a brand-new phone. Bless their hearts.

These days, cybercriminals are a whole lot sneakier than that.

Sometimes it's a fake website that looks almost identical to the real one. Sometimes it's a browser extension that promises to save you time. Sometimes it's the first result in a search engine. They count on busy people clicking before they have time to think twice.

That's why I'm always happy to see our team keep learning.

Congratulations to our co-founder, Ami DePierroAmi DePierro, for completing this month's cybersecurity training on Secure Browsing. Every course adds another layer of knowledge that helps us better protect the small businesses that trust us with their technology.

The internet changes every day. We believe our training should too.

250 years. That calls for a pretty big celebration.

Now, I don’t know who decided fireworks were the best way to celebrate. A few of my four-legged friends would like to have a word.

Digit says he is “monitoring the situation.”

I put on my flag bandana because, well, some of us understand accessorizing.

Around here, the Fourth of July looks like neighbors waving from porches, kids running through the yard, someone’s uncle taking the grill a little too seriously, and everybody pretending they weren’t waiting for the dessert table.

The best communities have always been built by the folks who show up. The ones who check on their neighbors, fix what needs fixing, and keep things moving without making a big fuss about it.
