Paragon Employee Spotlight | John “Big Fish” Salmon

Paragon Safety is spotlighting On-Site Safety Coach John “Big Fish” Salmon who joined our team in 2017. John grew up in Southwest Florida and gladly served in the Army for 7 years. He was lucky enough to spend time in West Germany before the Cold War ended and was deployed for the Gulf War in Southwest Asia. After that, he started a 17-year career in Emergency Services as a Firefighter, EMT and Hazards Material Technician among other duties.

John’s second life as a safety professional has allowed him to work with great partners, mainly in pharmaceutical, life sciences and mission critical projects. When he has time, he finds peace in gardening and raising chinchillas. We’re very glad to have you on the Paragon team, John!

Dig Safe Day | August 11

August 11 is Dig Safe Day, an annual initiative led by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). This day started to ensure the practice of safe digging is echoed in communities by calling 8-1-1, a nationwide toll-free number, before any excavation project.

As an agency committed to safety and protecting the nation's 3.3 million miles of pipeline, PHMSA recognizes the importance of damage prevention and seeks to eliminate excavation damage, which remains the leading cause of pipeline incidents.

Calling 811 or visiting www.call811.com, has proven to be the foremost preventive measure in excavation safety and damage prevention. Research has revealed that if someone calls 8-1-1 before they dig, they have a 99 percent chance of avoiding an incident, injury, harm to the environment and even death.

Paragon Safety is spotlighting On-Site Safety Coach Carlos Ortiz who joined our team in 2016. Carlos has thoroughly enjoyed his time with Paragon and his passion for safety shows at every project he works on. Currently, he is on the safety team at a construction project for one of our biggest clients that is in the medical space. He has been on this construction project for the past three years and joined midway through the first phase of construction and is now onto phase two.

Carlos says he has worked with some fantastic General Contractors and Safety Professionals on site and has made long lasting relationships. We’re very happy to have you on the Paragon team, Carlos!

Paradigm HSE is excited to announce the acquisition of Paragon Safety. Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Paragon is a full-service health and safety consulting and staffing firm, providing comprehensive solutions to reduce risk and enhance the health, safety, and productivity of employees working for its clients in the construction, manufacturing, and distribution industries.

Joshua B. Mauney, founder and CEO of Paragon, will join Paradigm HSE and maintain a meaningful role in continuing to scale the broader Professional Safety Services and Safety Staffing businesses of Paradigm HSE.
