Right after a move is the easiest moment to sort that out. Nothing has a spot yet, so nothing has to be undone, and the way the house works from there is a decision instead of an accident.

The bins are usually the first thing people buy and the last thing anyone explains how to use.

Most homes already have them. A stack in the garage, a few in the attic, one holding what can only be described as miscellaneous. The bins are doing exactly what they were asked to do: hold whatever got handed to them. What makes one actually work is the decision that happens before anything goes in.

One category per bin, and the category should be something you’d go looking for by name. Camping gear. Christmas. Extension cords and tape. If you can’t name what’s in the bin without opening it, that’s a bin you’ll sort out later and probably never do.

✨ A bin with a category is storage. A bin without one is a delay. ✨

Then give it a spot that matches how often you need it. Everyday things where they’re easy to reach, seasonal things up high, and the floor stays clear so the space doesn’t start collecting again. Label the front instead of the lid, because you’ll be reading it from six feet away with your hands full.

Nothing about a well organized home is natural, it’s curated.

We love a space that has clearly had a little thought put into it.

Not just pretty for pretty’s sake. Pretty, functional, and actually livable.

The hardest part is almost never the room, it's the phone call.

A lot of people sit with it for months, sometimes years, before they ask anyone for help, because letting someone see it feels heavier than the space itself.

Whatever it looks like right now, it isn’t the worst we’ve walked into and it doesn’t change how we see you.

Houses get away from people during hard years, busy years, years spent taking care of everyone else first. That’s the normal version of this, not the exception.

We’re not here to judge. We’re here to listen to your needs and build systems around them.

Summer Fun had a good run. ☀️

But now the backpacks are coming out, the schedules are filling up, and the playroom has officially entered its Fall Functional era. 🍂

The goal isn’t to take the fun out of the room. It’s to make it easier for kids to find what they want, put it away when they’re done, and actually have a space that works with the rhythm of the school year.

A playroom can be fun and functional. We like both.

When a space has become overwhelming, it can be hard to believe it will ever feel different.

But you do not have to tackle everything at once. You do not even have to know where to start.

Sometimes the first step is simply letting someone in to help.

There is no shame in needing support. There is no judgment in our process. And there is no requirement to have it all together before we arrive.

Just a starting point. Then we go from there. 🤍

We're familiar with the assumption that an organized home has to look a certain way: everything in a matching container, petit labels, everything tucked away. Basically, a showroom where nobody is allowed to actually live.

But organization and aesthetics aren’t competing ideas.

You can have systems that make your mornings easier, storage that actually makes sense, and a place for the things you use every day without making your home feel sterile or overly styled.

Sometimes the best organized spaces are the ones where you don’t immediately notice the organization, they just feel good to be in and everything works.

Back to school prep is a supply list, a shoe size, and a photo on the front steps…nobody puts a playroom audit on that list.

But that’s the room the school year actually runs through. It’s where everyone lands after school, where homework happens, and where all the stuff that comes home gets dropped.

The problem is, the playroom often hasn’t changed since the last school year. And neither has the way it’s organized.

A room gets set up for a four year old, and then somehow that four year old is seven. ⏰🤯 The dollhouse still has the best spot even though she hasn’t touched it in months, while the things she actually loves are getting shoved wherever they fit.

So they end up on the floor.

Kids change faster than rooms do. Sometimes the room isn’t messy because you’ve fallen behind. It’s messy because it no longer works for the kid who lives there.

These are five real playrooms, photographed right before school started. Same houses. Same square footage. The kids just grew up, and we helped their rooms catch up.
