We were honored to spend the day with the incredible team at Ridgeview, delivering a Leadership Seminar focused on the skills that help teams thrive during both everyday challenges and high pressure situations.

Together, we explored the importance of psychological safety, self regulation, effective communication, and having difficult conversations with confidence, empathy, and respect.

Throughout the day, Ridgeview’s powerful message, “You Matter Here,” remained at the center of every discussion.

Strong leadership starts with creating an environment where people feel valued, heard, supported, and empowered to do their best work. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with an organization that is so deeply committed to its people and its culture.

Thank you, Ridgeview, for your engagement, openness, and dedication to building stronger teams and stronger leaders.

New episode of Iron and Empathy is coming soon — and this conversation hit deep.
I sat down with employment lawyer, speaker, and leadership coach Natalie Holder to talk about workplace culture, reinvention, leadership blind spots, emotional intelligence, and what happens when people quietly feel unseen at work.
We talked about: • Why great employees often feel invisible • The hidden signs of a broken workplace culture • How leaders unintentionally lose trust • Why some people outgrow the environments they’re in • The power of having your own “personal board of directors” • How courage and discomfort often lead to growth
One of the most powerful moments of the episode was this reminder:
“Sometimes you haven’t failed the environment… you’ve simply outgrown the box you’re in.”
This conversation is for leaders, entrepreneurs, first responders, HR professionals, and anyone who has ever questioned their value, direction, or purpose at work.

We had a great time yesterday presenting a customized training session on active threat preparedness and de-escalation, along with tabletop exercises, for the Board Members of the NDAREC in Mandan, North Dakota, focused specifically on the unique needs and challenges facing electrical co-ops.

These conversations around leadership, communication, preparedness, and decision making are always meaningful, especially when you have such an engaged group participating in the discussion and exercises.

As an added bonus, we also got the opportunity to reconnect with some of our favorite people in the audience, which made the experience even more special.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to such a great day of learning and collaboration.

• The unseen stress telecommunicators carry every shift
• The emotional weight of traumatic calls that never leave you
• How technology is transforming emergency response in real time
• Leadership, wellness, and building a culture where people actually feel supported

Our old emergency drills trained us for fires and tornadoes, leading us to shelter in place during active threats. This was the worst possible action at Columbine, where victims were systematically killed while hiding. Sheltering in place is not the answer when lives are on the line.

Burnout isn’t a badge of honor… but too many high performers wear it like one.
Today on Iron and Empathy, I sit down with Scott Medlin for one of the most real conversations we’ve had yet.
This episode hits hard.
We talk about what burnout actually looks like before it becomes obvious…
Why “pushing through” can quietly destroy your performance, your relationships, and your identity…
And how high performers can shift from survival mode to truly thriving.
Scott shares powerful lessons from his time as a Marine, police officer, and leader working with people in high stress careers. This isn’t theory. This is lived experience.
If you’ve ever felt exhausted, stuck, or like you’re just going through the motions… this conversation is for you.
You’ll walk away with:
• Practical ways to reset your mindset
• Early warning signs of burnout most people miss
• Simple shifts that can change everything starting today
• A new perspective on what real strength actually looks like
This is one you don’t want to miss.
🎙️ The episode drops today.
Listen now and take a moment to check in on yourself… and your people.
Because iron sharpens iron… but empathy is what keeps us human.

When you're extremely stressed, your thinking brain shuts down for about 20 minutes. This 'fight or flight' response can lead to irrational decisions, from road rage to ruined relationships. Learn to de-escalate and stay in control.
