Quick check you can do today: open Word, click File, then Account, and see what it says under "Product Information."

If it shows 2021, that copy gets its last security fix on October 13, and the estimating spreadsheet everyone depends on is probably running on it.

Do you know which version of Office is on each computer in your shop?

Microsoft ships the last security fix for Office 2021 on October 13, with no extension. How to find the copies you still run, and what to replace them with.

Cyber insurance renewal shouldn’t be a guessing game. 🔐

When a carrier asks about MFA, backups, endpoint protection, or admin access, answering from memory, or rounding up to “yes”, can create serious problems when it’s time to file a claim.

The better approach? Every answer should be accurate, current and backed by evidence. Know your gaps before renewal season, test your backups, verify your protections and document everything.

Moving company email is rarely the hard part. The copier is.

After October, Microsoft ships no more security fixes for Exchange 2016 or 2019, the versions that run company email on a server in your own building. Microsoft has said there will be no further extension.

The mailboxes move fine. What breaks is everything that quietly sends mail through the old server: scan-to-email on the copier, invoices out of the ERP, backup reports, alarm alerts. When those go silent, it looks like good news.

One tip before you move: keep the old server running for a few weeks afterward, closed off from the internet. Something always turns up that was still pointed at it.

💡 3 IT Tips from Neuron: Make Sure Your Technology Can Grow With You

Growing your business without planning your technology can create unnecessary costs and complications. Keep these three things in mind:

📈 1. Include IT in your growth plans.
New employees, locations, equipment, and services can all create new technology and security requirements.

💰 2. Budget for replacement—not just repair.
Aging hardware eventually costs more in downtime, maintenance, and lost productivity. Plan upgrades before equipment becomes an emergency.

🔍 3. Review your IT environment regularly.
Your technology needs today may look very different a year from now. Regular reviews help uncover risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities to improve.

At Neuron Computers, we want technology to support where your business is going—not hold it back.

Here is the part nobody mentions about the old Windows 10 computers still running in the back of the shop: skipping a year of the paid security extension does not save you the money. The program is cumulative, so if you buy in later you pay for the years you missed — and the price doubles annually.

A computer that only runs one program attached to one machine on the floor often does not need to be a modern computer at all. Sometimes the right answer costs nothing.

How many machines in your building are you not sure about? Most owners guess low.

Windows 10 support ended last year. The paid extension gets twice as expensive this October, and the back years are not optional.

If a vendor emails new bank details and then calls to "confirm" them, that call doesn't count — even if it sounds exactly like the rep you've known for six years. The only check that works is calling a number you already had on file.

We wrote up the simple payment rules that stop this, no new software required. Does your office have a written rule for vendor bank changes, or is it done on trust?

A cloned voice can now back up a fake invoice email. Here is how the scam works on a payables desk and the simple rules that stop it.
