Paul Freidel passed the CPA exam at 17, with one of the top 50 scores in the nation.

After finishing his master’s, he joined a large national accounting firm and worked on some of their most complex transactions. That technical foundation is still at the heart of the work we do for clients today. Ten years ago, he brought that experience to the Black Hills.

Freidel & Associates, LLC started in a shack.

When Paul Freidel moved his family to the Black Hills, they sold the house and most of their vehicles, loaded a 10-year-old minivan and a U-Haul, and rented a home south of town.

His first office was a three-season shack off the back, with a rock wall on one side and a space heater under the desk that kept blowing the circuit.

With six kids in the house at the time, the family had a system: when something hung outside the door, Dad was in a client meeting.
