Aunt Lou's Underground Railroad
An Ohio Heirloom carried through the Underground Railroad by an unnamed black man as he crossed to freedom in Ripley, Ohio, from Kentucky. Ripley is home to Rankin House, a well-known stop on the Underground Railroad and now a museum. He grew these tomatoes there, and later shared seeds with a woman named Lou, who later shared seeds with her great nephew Francis Parker. Sixty years later Francis, who lives in Sardinia, Ohio, shared seeds with Wilfred Ellis, owner of Ellis’ Feed Mill. Francis died in 2010 but approved the addition of Underground Railroad to the name. Wilfred shared them with Susan Barber and Gary Millwood, Kentucky. Seeds were first offered in the Seed Savers 2010 Yearbook by Maria Stenger, Kentucky, who received seeds from Gary Millwood. Indeterminate, regular leaf plants produce 4-12 oz., dark pink, tangy and juicy tomatoes. Sparse foliage.

This side of the hoop house as been a hot mess since I built it. Plus the skirt boards were built level and not with grade so the cold air was coming in under the skirt boards last winter. I left the plastic long on the ground put down commercial w**d fabric and dumped about 2 1/2 feet of free wood chips back there and just followed just under the wiggle wire up to the front. That should keep the cold air out.

A few pepper pickin's this morning. Our average first frost is Oct 15th. Doesn't look like we are going to hit it. Suppose to be low 80F today. Which is good the plants need more time and I need more time, this is only about 1/2 the plants.😎
