Merrill's Investigation & Security was founded by Charles A. Merrill in 1986 after a distinguished 20-year career with the Maine Warden Service. The Company has operated continuously since that time. In 1999 the company added security and executive protection services to its suite of services. In 2004, after a ten year affiliation with Merrill’s and 21 years in law enforcement, Michael C. Harrington Sr. purchased the company. Harrington’s leadership the Company has grown exponentially and has developed into a regional powerhouse. Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001.

We honor the 2,977 lives lost, the families who were forever changed, and the extraordinary courage of the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, military members, search and rescue teams, both human and K9, and countless ordinary Americans who stepped forward in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Throughout the morning, we pause at six moments that forever changed our nation:

8:46 a.m. — American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

9:03 a.m. — United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower.

9:37 a.m. — American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon.

9:59 a.m. — The South Tower collapsed.

10:03 a.m. — United Airlines Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew fought back against the hijackers.

10:28 a.m. — The North Tower collapsed.

We remember those who ran toward danger to help others. We remember the men, women, and K9s who worked tirelessly at Ground Zero and the other attack sites in the days and months that followed—and those who later paid a tremendous price for their service.

Twenty-five years later, their courage, sacrifice, and service have not been forgotten.

Today, and always, we remember.

Dear Clients, Friends, and Associates,

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Michael C. Harrington, Sr.

Sr dedicated his life to serving others through an extraordinary career spanning 50 years in law enforcement, investigations, and security. From serving as a Police Chief and Regional Commander with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency to leading Merrill's Investigations & Security Services as Co-Owner and President, his career was defined by integrity, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others, earning him the respect of colleagues throughout Maine and beyond.

Although Sr. had largely stepped back from the day-to-day operations of the business in recent years to enjoy a well-earned retirement, his wisdom, mentorship, and values continued to shape our organization. His legacy is reflected in the professionalism and dedication that remain the foundation of Merrill's Investigations & Security Services today.

We know many of you had the privilege of working alongside Sr or calling him a friend. We are grateful for the trust, respect, and relationships he built over the years, and we appreciate the many expressions of kindness and support during this difficult time.

As we honor his memory, we remain committed to carrying forward the standards of excellence, integrity, and service that he established.
