A night to remember! So much joy, love, camaraderie, and insights into managing in the legal world at the 42nd annual APABA-PA Annual Banquet! Everyone was so lovely and incredibly welcoming. Met more awesome people and saw quite a few friends from Philadelphia Bar Association and WLD Philadelphia Chapter. Best part of my job, representing Premier Vocational Experts, is the people. Spreading the word about how our vocational experts and life care planners can assist on both plaintiff and defense cases. I have the life! And I must say, this organization has some serious magic and good will: just 2 days prior to the event they were told that the venue they had booked had to close down for safety reasons and Grand Palace Restaurant picked up the ball and ran with it! They pulled out all the stops and made this event truly memorable. Kudos to the many volunteers, attorneys, judges and law students and supporters in the mix.

What a glorious tour of the extraordinary Harrisburg PA State Capitol! I saw so much beauty, so much depth, so much artistry in less than an hour. Wow! So worth the time, and all I had to do was sign up online (see lasf slide). Allow me to quote from is a July 28, 2914 article by Bobbi Booker entitled: ‘Palace of art’ (The Philadelphoa Tribune).

“The current capitol, known as the Huston Capitol, was designed in 1902 in a Beaux-Arts style. (…) The Capitol’s centerpiece is a spectacular 272-foot, 52 million-pound dome inspired by Michelangelo’s design for St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Following its completion, the building was the tallest structure between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh for 80 years. The building incorporates various Renaissance designs in some of its largest rooms: Italian in the House Chamber, French in the Senate Chamber, and English in the Governor’s Reception Room. It also reflects Greek, Roman and Victorian influences in its art and ornamentation. The Capitol’s wealth of art and architecture maintains a strong connection to the vision of the Commonwealth’s founder, William Penn, who sought to establish a land that would be governed by just laws and tolerant of all religious faiths.” I couldn’t have described this glorious structure any better!

Philadelphia Bar Association Bench-Bar Conference Day 2 highlights! So many people to thank for a superb conference on many levels… not many here on Instagram so I’ll post on LinkedIn at some point! From remarks made in January by the Phila Bar Chancellor, Ezra Wohlgelernter: “As part of celebrating the 250th, we plan to bring the Bench-Bar & Annual Conference back to Philadelphia. Hosting the Bench-Bar here, in the birthplace of democracy, during the semi-quincentennial celebration, will elevate this event’s significance and deepen our members’ connection to our city and to one another.” It was totally well worth the change from the traditional Atlantic City venue (although I missed the after hours dancing part!).

I had the good fortune to have participated in an event at the W Hotel, directly across the street from this amazing Art Nouveau building (built 1904-1905), the historic Jacob Reed’s Sons Building. It is located at 1424 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Swipe to see the 4 round mosaic art tile murals mounted above in the entry archway. These Moravian pottery tiles were designed and manufactured by the local artisan, Henry Chapman Mercer. Since this building was the flagship store for Jacob Reed’s Sons (a prominent men’s clothier), the round tile murals explicitly depict the various stages of cloth-making and garment production. Apparently, this was also the very first commercial building in Philadelphia constructed using reinforced concrete. Now it is vacant, awaiting a new tenant. I wish I could’ve gone in to see the marvelous main showroom (archival photos courtesy of https://www.phila.gov/media. Historical info gleaned from various sources on Google.

Day 1 at the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Bench-Bar Conference commemorating our nation’s 250th anniversary and Constitution Day was a roaring success! Usually held in Atlantic City, this year it is being held in the gorgeous W Hotels in Philadelphia. Wow! Great to see so many attorneys from previous events and associations and meet new people full of joy and commitment. Very moving speeches during the Constitution Day ceremony and dinner. Our Premier Vocational Experts booth was well attended and I nearly ran out of giveaways! Holding off doing some top raffles until later today. Good luck! Thank you, All!

On my way to pick up a refurbished bed stand for Mom; couldn’t resist stopping here and buying some “Pink Peppermint Passion” chrysanthemums (breeder Dümmen Orange) and a small loaf of carrot bread! Plus a Whoopie Pie too (big selection). I literally came home and put “Melvin Nolt Produce Stand” on the (Google) map! Then I could add my review and photos! (They’re not in Instagram).
