HIDDEN HEROES OF BREMER COUNTY CONTEST!

As part of Bremer County’s celebration of our nation’s 250th anniversary, the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office and the Bremer County 250th Celebration Committee are seeking to honor a deserving Community Hero with 1 of 15 commemorative American flags donated to the county.

Do you know someone who goes above and beyond to make our community a better place?

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office is seeking nominations for a Community Hero—someone who exemplifies service, patriotism, kindness, leadership, or dedication to others. This could be a veteran, first responder, teacher, volunteer, coach, neighbor, or anyone who makes a positive impact in our community.

One deserving Community Hero will receive a special American flag that was proudly flown over the U.S. Capitol, along with an official certificate of authenticity.

To nominate someone, leave a comment on this post with their name and a brief description of why they deserve this honor by June 12.

Let’s recognize the individuals who embody the values that make our community strong.

Thank you to all who serve, volunteer, and make a difference every day. Together, we honor those who help keep the American spirit alive.

Special thanks to the Bremer County 250th Celebration Committee for providing the Sheriff's Office with this opportunity!

We had a blast today helping with some hands on education as part of a larger event at Readlyn Elementary-Wapsie Valley. We were able to educate students on how and when to use a fire extinguisher & fire blanket. Included in our session was information on the considerations of using these devices & hands on practice with both devices types.

If you encounter a small fire, being properly informed on how to use these fire suppression devices could make a huge difference! When in doubt, leave the area and call for help.

Our Readlyn EMS partners also put on a great "stuffy" clinic, educating students on various medical handling and treatment elements. The students got to help with some hands on assistance with providing care to the "patient".

We also got to help with a surprise false fire alarm while getting things setup for the event. Our school staff handled the situation professionally and promptly!

Today, we had the honor of attending one of the most incredible assemblies put on by the students and staff at Readlyn Elementary.

The 4th grade Servant Leader Group took on a big idea and ran with it. They organized a school-wide Coin War Challenge from start to finish. From planning, creating posters, collecting donations in classrooms, bringing everything to the bank, and even reaching out to local businesses for matching support… they did it all.

Their original goal was $150.

Today, they proudly announced they raised an amazing:

$2,591.28

Here’s how it all came together:
• Readlyn Elementary students: $870.64
• RTC Communications match: $870.64
• Readlyn Savings Bank match: $500
• TruServe Insurance match: $200
• Weeds on Fire match: $150

A huge thank you to the Foelske for donating all of the food and drinks for breakfast this morning.

Even more special, the entire 4th grade class came together to serve the breakfast. They were the smiling faces that greeted us right as we walked in the door. From start to finish, they took care of everything, and truly catered the experience for us.

It was incredible to see these young men and women step up and do such an outstanding job.

Many of our Fire and EMS members were able to enjoy breakfast, play games, and spend time with the students during the assembly. It was a special morning we won’t forget.

To these students: thank you. You showed leadership, heart, and what it truly means to give back to your community.

To the staff and local businesses who supported this effort: thank you for helping make such a big impact.

We are incredibly grateful to be part of a community that shows up like this at every age.

Exciting news!!

We have been informed that the City of Readlyn / Readlyn Emergency Services Building project application through Congresswoman Ashley Hinson’s Community Project Fund has been awarded at the full $1,000,000 request amount!

This is a huge step forward in our efforts to build a new emergency services building. Combined with the incredible support from our community, this brings us to over 90% of our fundraising goal.

This funding is still subject to final federal approval, and timelines will ultimately depend on that process. If approved as expected, we are hopeful to begin construction and break ground in the spring.

Thank you to Congresswoman Ashley Hinson and thank you to our community for the continued support.
