You can’t fix what you can’t see.

Yet, often leaders will create policies without the benefit of first investigating what’s in their ecosystem.

Good policies won’t fix bad core technology or business issues.

It’s worth the time to invest resources (time, talent , and, yes, even cash) to truly upgrade your enterprise.

Superficial fixes might impress customers (temporarily).

But it will be at the expense of your long-term resilience and stability.

A friend and I have been talking about what we like best when it comes to learning more tools, dealing with people, and developing policies.

I'm curious what other people think about the intersection of these 3 things.

Although the people management part sounds exciting, it has its drawbacks.

It can really depend on how willing people are to comply, how much they want to embrace changes necessary for an organization to succeed.

It's really crazy the lengths that people go to in order to avoid doing what they're supposed to do.

👉🏼 How many other things are urgent

👉🏼 How many other things got dropped into their lap

👉🏼 How they have no bandwidth, and on, and on, and on

That's why it's really important to understand the psychology of how people freak out when they realize they have to change, but they're not yet ready to embrace it.

Part of the work is removing the obstacles that are really in the way, (but that they will never 𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙡𝙮 articulate to you).

So in a way, when it comes to people management, it's more about 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀.

This, I believe, makes it easier to handle the technical part and the policy part.

Would love to hear in the comments how you handle any of these!

They’re incompetent.

It might be clear to you but not to them.

You could complain. Will that get you anywhere?

Stop taking time to feel offended, or to gossip.

Instead think of how you can help them do better.

So happy I got to meet up with my friend Margaret for , , and so much more today.

It’s been a while since we got to talk face-to-face, and time flew.

Although the weather was cloudy, at least it wasn’t cold like the last we saw each other in .

Nothing warms my heart more than people who care about others.

Grateful for technology allowing people all over the world to connect, but it’s a special treat to in person.
