Good evening Friends and Family! I got to get out and visit at a couple places tonight!
At one of the stops, I got to talk with one of our members who is in recovery and helps others to find recovery and rehabilitation from their own addictions. It was one of my best visits that I have had so far! Due to privacy issues, I won't mention names or work places, but some of the issues that were brought up were so valuable and spot on that I really wanted to share them with YOU.
They work for one our programs that help our members to start their path on the road to recovery, and they talked about how it is a full time job that extends past the normal working hours. They said that the work they do is not only important for our community members, but also for them in their own recovery.
A lot of the things that they shared with me really hit home. I myself, am a recovering addict and I understand how hard you have to work to live a life of sobriety, everyday. So, I really respect the things that they shared with me and I know it came from their heart.
Another thing that they talked about is how important mental health is when it comes to being able to live a life of sobriety and wanting to overcome addiction. In order to want to live a life of sobriety, a person needs to be able to have all the tools necessary to take that first step, and along with the rehabilitation and treatment aspects of recovery, mental health is just as important. In order to be able to want to live a good life, in a good way, we must first have the tools, and abilities, to ensure that we are taking care of our own mental health first.
If YOU elect me YOUR next Red Lake Representative, I will support any and all efforts that will lead to expanding, and creating new, mental health services for our members, expanding and creating more rehabilitation and recovery services, and exploring all options that will lead to our members living a life of sobriety. I know that mental health is an issue that is rarely talked about, but it is an issue that affects our everyday lives, whether we are sober or not.
If elected YOUR next Red Lake Representative, I will always address the issues that are important to ALL of our members and support ALL of our members living the best life that they can! I am so thankful that we have so many members who are working hard everyday to help improve the lives of others, both on and off, the reservation! I will always support our members who are doing their part to help our entire Red Lake Nation improve! This is just one of the many awesome visits that I have had so far, and I look forward to having more! I want to say ChiMiigwitch to those of you who have taken the time to share your ideas, concerns, and time with me! Miigwitch!!
